Acer's 24-inch P244Wbmii LCD monitor touts 1080p panel, twin HDMI inputs
Further blurring the line between an LCD computer monitor and a bedroom HDTV is Acer, as its P244Wbmii boasts not only a 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) panel but also a pair of HDMI inputs. The 24-inch (TN) display features a 2-millisecond response time, 300 cd / m2 brightness, 20,000:1 contrast ratio and a VGA port for PC purists. Mum's the word on a price or availability, but all signs point to a Japanese first / only release.

If it were the right price. I see no problem having an LCD panel like this. Large enough for a bedroom TV, but big enough to be a kick ass PC monitor depending upon refresh rate assuming 120Hz. Who gives a crap a out VGA for computers most computers have DVI with the proper cable or converter you can go full on HDMI and max res with this beast. I don't understand why flat panels can't do higher res through VGA it is capable of higher res than every Panel on the market seems to support through VGA. Most cards support above 1366x768 through VGA, but the TVs don't.
1080p for a "kick ass PC monitor", doesn't seem too "kick ass" to me...
Hmm this looks pretty promisi.....
Oh, Acer?
Nevermind.
You're right. I would prefer 480i because it is... um. A cooler number.
I was wondering the same thing about the "a VGA output for PC purists" line. Since when do PC purists prefer VGA? I've used DVI ever since it came out, unless I'm using a CRT. Maybe it's been too long since I've went to any PC purists meetings . . .
Oh c'mon! Low Ranking me, for what?!
I go hide and cry now...
I'm waiting for their 50,000:1 contrast monitor in something other then orange!!!

"dynamic" contrast ratios are meaningless since they can't be measured and proven out.
Go with the display with the best actual contrast ratio and you will be much happier in the long run!
I have the AL2416W, very similar to these specs but only one HDMI port. The problem with this monitor is that the color reproduction is seriously washed out and very angle dependent. If you sit 24" from the screen, some low contrast lines will fade to invisibility toward the edges of the screen because of the change in viewing angle - they're still there, just move your head and they appear, but it means that small scale color/contrast reproduction is literally all over the place. A viewing angle of 178 degrees may be true, but by the time you get to that angle, some of the picture has actually inverted itself.
It's o.k. for reading black on white text, but for working in many colors, I have seen much better LCDs.
whats all that lumpy crap under the screen?
That would be the stand.
TN panel? Unless it's $99.00 or less it's overpriced crap.
Agreed. Looking at the specs: "20,000:1 contrast ratio". That thing has a 20K contrast in the same way as I have a 20" penis.
That, in its entirety, is absolutely quite unneccesary to include in a post about a computer monitor.
Why does it look like it's got a tumor on the back.
Oh shush. It's beautiful on the inside? Rite?
...
I guess we'll let the price tag be the judge of that.
blurring the line between good design and crap.
Acer is from Taiwan, so why are you assuming it is aiming for a "Japanese" first/only release? What's the logic?
bravo for engadget writing a review on a monitor and actually including the panel type! thanks guys.
this is already available at newegg.
