South Bend, Indiana gets HD news from WSBT-TV

South Bend, Indiana got more than a win from their Fighting Irish this weekend -- they also got a heavy dose of HD news. WSBT-TV, the area's CBS affiliate, became the first in the region to air its newscasts digitally just days ago, and moreover, the first to broadcast in high-definition. Viewers are being treated to clearer views of their favorite anchors and more information on a wider screen platform, including additional weather data on the margins of their TV screens. The station's news director Meg Sauer has also asked for forgiveness if any glitches crop up due to all the new equipment, but we're sure you'll be willing to do so in exchange for an HD quality broadcast.
We got us a stop light and TWO McDonald's too! Actually, it's nice to see one of my local affiliates step up. I actually didn't realize this was that big of a deal when I heard about them building the new studio.
WSBT the first in the region to broadcast in HD??? Uh, no. South Bend's NBC affiliate, WNDU, was broadcasting their newscast in HD *years* ago, like 5 or 6 years ago I think. They were one of the first local news stations in the nation to do so; I had a friend that worked there during the transition.
if WNDU started broadcasting hd news years ago, then they must have stopped recently... their newscasts are still sd, but are widescreen on 16-3.
