Bourne Triology hitting Blu-ray Disc in January 2009
Bourne is already a proven winner in high-def, so it's no shock at all to see that Universal Studios Home Entertainment is finally bringing the acclaimed trilogy to Blu-ray. The only real surprise is the release date; rather than squeezing it in before the holiday break, Universal's hoping to grab a small chunk of your grandma money in late January. The three pack, which will obviously include The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, will not only include hours of bonus materials including deleted scenes, interviews, behind-the-scenes featurettes and commentaries, but it'll also take advantage of BD-Live. The disc will grant access to the studio's BD-Live Center, where fans can then "download even more bonus content, share their favorite scenes with buddies, and engage in a BD-exclusive strategy game that pits users against each other in hand-to-hand combat simulation." Too bad the MSRP is set at $119.98, but you've got until January 27, 2009 to get enough couch change together.

SWEET! Looks like this will be the third and hopefully last time I'll be buying the trilogy.
Don't be so sure about that. This will be the third, in the many times, you'd be buying this. There's still more resolution left between Blu-ray and the original film.
Not to mention, Damon said he would do another one if they ever asked him (duh, great movies and I'm sure great money). This franchise might not stop at a trilogy even though the book series did...
@daaper
Well, kind of. The original author stopped at three... but then again, he died. Another author picked up the series and has (so far) written 2 more. He's working on (or about to release, or just released... I'm not sure and too lazy to look it up) a third.
Aha, thanks for the insight. Love the movies, but haven't read the books yet. I'm thinking I might start in the near future.
Don't bother, the books are nothing like the movies
Where the hell is the blu-ray Lebowski?
Where's the blu-ray shithead?!
Damon and Greengrass have already singed on to do a 4th. I originally thought that they would coincide the release of the trilogy with the release of the 4th movie. I guess Bourne 4 was too far down the road.
there's already a 4th book and here's the imdb page for the 4th movie- untitled jason bourne project- for 2010
Am I the only one who didn't think so highly of the Bourne Trilogy? I mean, the movies are fun to watch....the first time. However, I was not motivated to watch them again and again, like my favorite movies. To each his/her own I guess.
in a word.....yes
MSRP of $120?!? Are you fricken kidding me? The most I'd pay for it would be $60. They had better get their priorities straight.
You do realize that at that MSRP, very similar to the Matrix Trilogy list MSRP, that you'll be able to pick this up on Amazon for like $75 or under.
I bought the HD DVD set for about $50 on Amazon...don't remember what retail was then... so this better be close to that.
Naaa, we'll not see the kinds of prices we got on HD DVD until the plug's pulled on Blu
(which may not be too long if this X-Mas is a flop).
You just have to keep watching for the deals.
I just cancelled my Batman TDK & Wanted cos another outlet had a lunchtime deal on, & I've now got them coming @ £13.44/$19.95 delivered.
F*ck you, BDA.
Well, The Borne Trilogy on Blu is not on Amazon yet, but I got the Matrix set for 74.95 by pre-ordering on on Amazon and getting the lowest price they had between order date and shipping date.
So chances are this thing will be around 70.00 or so if you get that or some similar low price deal.
If that's still a bit high, but if you really want a lower price...don't buy first day, wait for like 6 months. There are tons of Blu discs on Amazon used for an average of 13 dollars with shipping, and with the BD hardcoating you aren't running much of a risk that the disc doesn't play due to scratches.
Example: 30 days of Night, a movie I rented but have now been thinking of getting is only 18 dollars new or 15 used With shipping in the new&used section of the buying options on Amazons page for that disc, if you just buy it from Amazon it's 24.99.
This should at least keep the blu-ray sales numbers up in January.
Bourne is the last major missing "crown jewel" that appeared on HD DVD and not Blu. I'm surprised it took them so long. I thought boxed sets would sell better in December than January.
I've been waiting for children of men.
Has no one noticed the GROSS misspelling in the title?
Come on Engadget... we're idiots, we're allowed to make speeling and gramer mistakes, but you are a professional tech blog... triOlogy? Seriously?
I was thinking like when Matrix came out...maybe they will offer a package of a bd player and the trilogy for free.. Some were getting Samsung 1500 for $220 and free matrix films...I would bet by Jan it would be $200 with free Bourn Trilogy....maybe less
lol HDDVD release is probably dirt cheap and available now... Glad I waited to find 20GB PS3 on eBay for cheap, slapped an old macbook 120GB drive in it.. Incidentally, I've had _Master & Commander_ freeze and _Wall-E_ refuse to play without rebooting, I though that was only a problem with dual-format HDDVDs :///
