Magnavox Blu-ray player to be $128 at Walmart on Black Friday
We casually mentioned this here deal a few days back upon spying Walmart's leaked Black Friday list, but just in case you missed it, there will be at least one Blu-ray player out there for well under $150. The Magnavox NB500MG9 (which is really a Funai NB500 underneath the logo) will be offered for just a buck twenty-eight on the day after Thanksgiving here in the US, and while it's far from the most highly acclaimed BD deck in existence, there's no denying that the price is right. Our hopes and dreams? That five other players undercut it.

I have never equated Magnavox with high quality products, so I can't see myself going for this either. Not bad for $125 though. I still remember picking up some JVC DVD player on clearance on $125 down from $250. But then again, Magnavox is not in the same league as JVC products.
Will do if your on a budget. Got at a pawn shop for 50.00 with no sales tax in New Hampshire.
No problem with it except for load times. Few if any extra features other than standard.
I am very tempted to pick this up. Couldn't care less that its only profile 1.1 and not 2.0. My main concern is the startup time. Does anyone know if this takes over a minute to load a disc?
I'm returning my panny and buying 5 of 'em......the guy sitting next to me is returning his denon and buying 20 more......
Have fun buying 5 more of them when they don't work in 6 months from now. I'll take my Denon blu-ray that will last for 5+ years over a piece of junk that will be lucky to last 6 months.
wow, a HD player that actually looks WORSE than my HD DVD player!
I like the price but seriously, who would pay $100+ for a Magnavox anything???
Oh my god, that's hideous.
However, I (unlike Rob above) have never had an issues with my Magnavox products - but they've all been re-branded Philips items, not something like Funai.
WOW! I was waiting for the Oppo BDP-83, now I's will have to get me a Magnovox. Now, where's I plug in to my Sampo panel???
LOL
Personally, I'll be buying one for my mother for Christmas.
She doesn't watch movies that often but has an HDTV and is frustrated by the fact that she cant borrow any of my movies. This is the perfect solution for her.
Kmart/Sears has Sony BDPS350 for $179 for thanksgiving day/black friday. I would feel alot better about that player.
The thing looks hideous but the playback is meant to be okay.
This is good news for the Blu-ray format. There is an audience for this box, they will buy it and they will like it. That's what matters.
I think it's great that you can get players for such good prices. I've been working with Warner Home Video on blu-ray projects and the format has me completely hooked. I really hope it keeps getting more widely adopted, it really is a fantastic format.
well , i bought one of those magnavox blu-rays,,and guess what , it works perfectly(so far)..
res is good, and load time averages between 33 and 48 seconds on everything i've thrown at it so far..not the prettiest unit on my shelf..but not that bad either..i watch the playback not the box..
remote feels a little cheap in hand but, also works perfectly..it does a great job of up-converting
my standard dvd's too..try one i think you'll be impressed...if not take it back ta wal-mart and spend more fer something else..nothing to lose so its a no brainer to try.....
