ESPN recommends dropping HDTV to weather tough economy
Wait a second, read that headline again. Got it? Has it sunk in? Awesome. ESPN, the self-proclaimed worldwide leader in sports and true pioneer in getting even some of the most obscure events known to man in HD, has let DJ Gallo go right off the deep end. In an article titled "Financial tips for sports fans in a troubled economy," he first recommends to sell your old playing cards -- you know, since hordes of people are out in this economy trying to snap up Topps collections plastered with middle-aged athletes on them. The second recommendation is the most astounding: "Drop your HDTV package." We can't help but think that he's totally joking here -- a sports website telling hardcore sports fanatics to ditch high-def? Talk about a reason to chuckle.

I refuse to believe this, for my sanity's sake.
Well, at least with Time Warner it's the same price, HD or not. Plus, what's most carrier's HD plans anyways...$5-$10 a month?
I'm really starting to think the phrase "In this economy" needs to be banned for awhile. Ugghh.
Depending on how much your HD package is, that's a good idea. Of course, you could always do what people like me do and just not subscribe to cable, period...saves about $700 a year. For the basic package.
It's a Page 2 article by DJ Gallo. He is one of their best satirical writers.
Of course it's a joke.
hmmm howabout Time Warner drop the ESPN package and let me save $10 a month?
Considering two of the other suggestions in the article are to sell your house and live and the office & start selling advertising on yourself for GoldenPalace.com, i think it is safe to say at least large portions of this article are tongue firmly in cheek. Way to totally miss the joke.
its $9 for me for the hd package which most i can get over the air for free which is what im gonna be doing,i only pay like $25 a month for cable cuz i dont have the extended basic tier which is like $60
The satire of this article just went right over your head, didn't it. I can only hope YOUR post is a joke on top of the ESPN writer's joke. I suspect it isn't.
If you need to gain 10 dollars a month to help you survive... then maybe you don't need to be buying cable tv or satellite, with a high def player, and go eat noodles everyday.
Give up high def?? I'd rather donate both nuts first.
Yuck...
...and no.
Satire...
But no way I can drop my HD. I make it a point to watch ESPN HD all day every day
A few months ago, I DID drop the extra HD Tier Time Warner "kindly" added to my package. I think it was an extra $5.99 a month or so but I never watched any of the channels. Maybe RARELY MOJOHD or something
Better advice would be to start watching at home more instead of spending $50-100 on a dinner and a movie date on a Saturday night. Plus it's a lot quicker to get to the bed.
Haha, DJ Gallo wrote about you guys posting this article. "So if you’d like to write for a big, successful blog that appeals to a broad audience, it helps to not only dumb down your writing, but actually be really, really, really dumb yourself (and he linked to here)
Nice job guys.
