AT&T could bring U-verse services to Rock Hill / Columbia, SC within a year
Given the proximity of Charlotte, NC to both Rock Hill and Columbia, SC -- not to mention that $250 to $350 million fiber investment across the Carolinas -- we suppose it's no real shock to hear that AT&T is planning on bringing its services down south to Gamecock country. According to a local paper, the operator "has received certificates from South Carolina officials to bring the service to Columbia and Rock Hill within a year." AT&T itself has refused to dish out a definite launch date for the upstate, but it has said that it is "already upgrading its network toward that end." Truth be told, we'll feel a lot more confident in all of this if the Triangle region gets lit next week as rumored. Fingers crossed!

I really don't think anyone cares about every installation that happens in America!!!
kill that.......it matters to those of us in those areas.........regardless if it matters to you or not
would be good for Rock Hill......damn Comporium and their Monopoly..........internet is too damn high.....my inlaws would love to get AT&T
My point is that this is not national/global news everytime a new service begins in each town around the country. I could understand the first few cities making headlines.
I really doubt the people of Rock Hill / Columbia, SC need engadgethd to tell them that the U-Verse truck is in town. I'm sure there will be plenty of mail and tv ads.
I am with them there. Comporium is the last privately held telephone company in the US.
But, I am thinking that this would not be really getting away from Comporium as they already sell AT&T cell phone service.
I would like to see TWC in Rock Hill myself.
AT&T can't even bring it to my county of 750,000 where the bulk of homes is less than 20 years old. Entering into a makret, as announced on this board, is nothing more than token effort at best.
My suburb of Kansas City has had Uverse for about a year now. There has been a Vrad within a thousand feet of me for the better part of a year now (AT&T even put "U-Verse watched here!" signs in yards to taunt me every time I drive by) but no service on my street. It's getting to the point that whenever I hear about a U-Verse deployment, I laugh and think of all the townsfolk that have heard about the deployment, and won't be able to actually get U-Verse for years.
It's a shame because my commitment with Dish is over in a month (terrible service. Goes out whenever it rains, snows, etc) and I'm looking for a replacement. This is their chance to have me wrapped up with phone, cellphone, TV, and Internet, for the next couple of years, but they don't seem poised to finally bring that sweet 18mbps goodness my way.
Oh well.
How about AT&T get U-Verse to all neighborhoods in Charlotte (especially mine) before expanding out to S.C.
I just had Uverse installed in Pineville last week. I have never seen such good installation service. The system works great.
I was a bit disapointed in the DVR since you can only program recording from the DVR STB but that been a minor issue. It does seem a bit funny since I can program it from the Internet. Why not a non-DVR STB?
Interestingly, My neighbor accross the street just checked for availability and it comes up unavailable. We are connected to the same terminal box. I suspect that maybe they are taking this slowly to make sure everything is working.
Gamecock country? The Shamecocks have a rich history of nothing but disappointment. Have won less than 50% of their games all time. Took them over 100 years to make it to a bowl game. Even a great coach like Lou Holtz ended his career with an under-.500 record at USuCk. And now the Old Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, is seeing his great coaching career end in shame with the Shamecocks. Their football field is up for sale to the highest bidding sponsor. An appropriate name would be Tiger Field, since Clemson owns USCjr.
uverse already launched in some parts of columbia, getting it installed on the 22nd of dec of this year.
