DISH Network's ViP222k HD receiver now available
At first glance, DISH Network's ViP222k HD receiver seems like something worth yawning over and forgetting forever. But there are a few unique tidbits that we feel are worthy of consideration. For starters, the box packs an Over The Air Tuning Cartridge which enables the viewing of two separate OTA HD (ATSC) broadcasts on two separate TV sets. Furthermore, it comes bundled with the new DISH two-way learning remote, and for those willing to attach external USB storage, you can theoretically record four HD programs at once so long as two are via OTA antenna. It's shipping as we speak for $289.99 (or $30 less for those who don't want the ATSC Tuner Cartridge).

Update: Here's an animated look at the OTA module in the 722k. Thanks, Vanbrothers!

I am a long-time dish fan and so this is more constructive criticism than an attack...
If I could USE the material that dish lets me record, I would be thrilled. If I could USE my DVR material on my iPhone, if I could TAKE my movies into the car and plug into the jacks on the DVD unit, if I could WATCH my 1080p VODs indefinitely...
GREAT TURBO HD package! I love it! Now please grant more flexibility!
It is not dish's fault that you can't take the recorded shows with you. The problem is the legal problems that come with sharing that recorded content. Think about, Apple charges $2.00 for every T.V. show that you buy from them. If your Dish bill is $40.00 it would only take you downloading 20 shows to your iPhone before you equal that of buying from apple. If everyone could digitally record from their DVR to their iPod than apple would lose a large market share which would result in less money to the companies that produce the shows. This would result in a large amount of lawsuits that would put Dish Network out of business.
BTW their are Archos video players that you can buy from Dish that comes with an output jack.
It should be noted that the 222k is NOT a DVR. The one everyone is waiting for is the 722k that is a DVR. The 222k is just a receiver which can output to two televisions.

The 722k (The one with the DVR) will be out within the next few weeks.
Me personally I am waiting for the 922 which will be announced at CES which will contain built in Sling functionality. That receiver will be this years hot product from the CES show.
But you could hook it up to an EHD, right Scott?
