VOOM HD networks going kaput in America
Sad to say, but we sort of saw this one coming. After DISH Network decided to ditch the 15 VOOM HD channels earlier this year, it was practically a matter of time before they vanished completely without a surge in support from other providers. Today, Cablevision Systems announced that it would be pulling the final plug on the VOOM HD stations (in America, anyway) in late January. The move will also mean that an undisclosed amount of employees will be out of work, though some staff will remain on to handle international distribution. Joshua Sapan, Rainbow's chief executive, was quoted as saying the following: "It became clear that we can no longer operate Voom domestically, particularly without EchoStar fulfilling its obligations and providing its support." Please tell us we aren't the only ones who just got a mental image of the bitter beer face™.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Darn shame, when I did have Dish, I always enjoyed the Voom channels. I also enjoyed MLB Extra Innings too, until Dish lost that as well. Content is king. As much as I preferred the Dish service and DVR, I must now use DirecTV.
As a subscriber of Dish for the past 4 years, I have enjoyed their service. Awesome HD dvr, good phone service, good programming and adding channels fast (yes they lagged behind Direct but caught up). I was very disturbed by the loss of Voom when Dish cut them off. There were over a dozen channels of 24 hour a day commercial free HD content. Monsters HD showed some great films, the later Japanese Godzilla films were all shown in high def as were Planet of the Apes series and Friday the 13th and many more. That is a huge loss. Also FilmFest HD was great too, showing films like Exodus, Man of La Mancha and many more good classics in HD. In fact, most of Film Fest movies were from United Artists, which is what is shown on MGM HD, but MGM HD has not shown the top classics like Filmfest did.
Nonetheless, I stayed with Dish and am very happy. One of the major plusses of Dish is the external hard drive feature. Hook it up via USB to the DVR and I have 3 750gb hard drives full with 348 high def movies. The number of drives you can use is not limited at all. Very happy Dish customer here, but do miss Voom.
as a cablevision subscriber - i expect these channels to be replaced with better ones asap...
VOOM was one of the best things for HD ever in the history. People just getting into HD have no idea or the ones that did'nt choose Dish. Nothing compares to it now.
They did waste anytime, HD News went off the air at 12am this morning.

Absolute shame. Quality & niche programming that was ahead of it's time. Moron detractors are just that.
I swore I wouldn't switch to FIOS because I knew they'd never be able to carry Monsters HD. A great channel. Now I will reconsider...
say it aint so best HD for worldsport soccer and nature series
once again money talks and the and the person paying the bill gets crapped on,,, I want my treasure channel dammit, that sucks
Voom would have kept me on Cablevision. We especially appreciated the Japanese movies on KungFu HD, as well as several of the other channels. Awesome HD programming.
As soon as FIOS is available in our area here in Bergen County in NJ, we'll switch over. Hope Cablevision gets this feedback.
This sucks, I just found out about Voom HD is OOB. I did enjoy most of their HD channels, just got off the phone with Cablevision. They state starting tomorrow they will be providing more premium HD movie channels. Is this going to cost me more. I will miss Voom, I liked Monster HD, some real great bad horror movies.
This is utter garbage. I just got hooked onto Voom network chans. Kung fu, gameplay, monsters. I started telling friends about it and we'd have kung fu nights. Cablevision has very little to offer now.
Droppg Voom is the worst thing to happen to Cable Vision.
My viewing pleasure has been shattered.
Voom's channel lineup ran circles around the boring and mainstream hbo and starz replacement.
I am very upset and plan on dropping the service if Voom isn't replace.
sad sad day
I miss ultra-hd.
Now all my fav shows are gone. I can't watch the full frontal coverage of nyc fashion week !!!!!
Fashion avenue was so good toooo!!!!!
