OEM Blu-ray deck manufacturers in China / Taiwan slammed from price drops
Whoa, shocker of the century here. DigiTimes has it that OEM Blu-ray Disc player manufacturers in China and Taiwan are seriously feeling the burn after a number of companies decided to deeply discount their decks in order to get them moving from store shelves. Imagine that, right? What's interesting is that the source also mentions that these very OEM companies "have received almost no orders from the US so far in December," signaling that current inventory channels are likely clogged up. Eh, they can gripe and moan all they want about their dwindling profit margins, but we the consumer are quite thrilled with all this price slashing. Can we get an amen from the congregation?

who cares.
i couldn't give a chunkier dump about blu-ray by now.
the format war wore me out.
next.
You cared enough to come in and make a worthless comment. If you're not interested, move along.
"Chunkier Dump" LOL! I have to start using that one.
My Samsung Blu-ray cost me a negative one dollar at Amazon with the purchase of my Samsung HDTV a few weeks ago. That sure sounds like Blu-ray player inventory dumping to me.
Amen my brother, Amen!
isn't this the same thing everyone was bitching about toshiba doing to the other manufacturers and that's why nobody wanted to jump in?
Yes, except when Tosh did it they were lower then shark shit, now it's just great news for consumers, amen brother Smurf.
Irony, but it is what is.
Too bad people that might be willing to bite can't because of the shape of the global economy.
It's not the same at all. There are dozens of companies selling BD players, with the intent of making a profit, not winning a format war. There is little incentive for any manufacturer to take a hit on a player unless its bundled with a TV or similar where they'd still make a profit overall.
People are definitely biting. So many people that I would have never expected to be interested in Blu-ray (like friend's parents and grandparents) are getting players or buying them for gifts. My buddy was just telling me how his parents just bought one even before he has picked up one for his 50" HDTV. I have to say it's catching on.
Yeah, right on.
Where are the damning comments about there being no money in Blu-ray for anyone else?
(like there ever was for anyone not selling a PS3 anyways....and even there Sony has lost money on every one sold so far)
Maybe it's more a sign of desperation?
"but we the consumer are quite thrilled with all this price slashing."
What price slashing... yea i bought in at $150... but it was because the price drop is taking to long I didn't wait for $99.
There need to be $70 and $80 players next Christmas.
Yes you could, because you spent time to post on this. :)
I bought a Panasonic DMP-BD35 for $200 w/ 6 free blu-ray discs. It would be hard to buy a Panny dvd player and 6 discs even a few years ago for that price. Wait for the right deal and you can get something nice. Sure there might be a few cheap players next year but I got tired of watching crappy dvd's on my 50" plasma. Blu-ray makes it look like it's supposed to. I can't stand watching dvd's now.
If the channel is stuffed, that kind of implies that the consumer isn't buying in. At least not to the degree anticipated by the distributors.
...and how about some serious sales promoting deep discounts on blu-ray discs....and blu-ray media...time to get real.
Amen! Hallelujah!
Gosh. Stop complaining. Just make $99 players, I'm sure it's not that hard by now...
