I have no need to watch television anymore. My computer is an entertainment center. Also using xbox to stream netflix. And I even check current events daily. There has not been a need for television for some time now.
You've got the right state of mind, but it sounds like you just need a better HDTV. Download your shows in HD, send them to your HDTV from your PC via HDMI or VGA. The TV experience is much better from a couch on a big screen than on your 20" monitor in your office chair. I've got a great monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 206BW), but the image is looks poor compared to my HDTV (Samsung LN40A650).
