How in the world do you convert 2d to 3d without having horrible results? There's no way a chip can be smart enough to decide how near or far each pixel is in an image, at least not with today's technology.
the same technology have been demonstrated more than 10 years ago with pretty good results by C3D. They used Jurassic Park LaserDisc hooked up to a C3D standalone unit and played back using regular TV.
It's not and never be perfect... but it's pretty impressive nevertheless.
