Denon's DVD-A1UD universal Blu-ray player gets priced / dated for UK: £3,299 in March
Denon's format-lovin' DVD-A1UD universal Blu-ray player has already notched prices and release dates for Japan and America, and now those in the UK can start counting their pounds as they await a launch of their own. The beefed-up deck -- which handles Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, SACDs and DVD-Audio discs -- is slated to go on sale this March in the UK for a stiff £3,299 ($4,808), and to-be buyers can go ahead and start thinking about whether they prefer silver or black.

Not too bad a price when you consider their previous top-dawg universal dvd player (DVD-5910CI) is $3800 if I remember...Still, I think that just about every blu-ray player looks pretty close (they are give a great picture). This is for those people who want 1 player for everything, and upconverts dvd's in a stellar way. For me, I think the new Oppo player will perform just as well for 1/5th of the price. No DVD-audio support though.
Oppo will have DVD-Audio support.
Wow at that price it had better cure diseases as well...
What credit crunch I think Denon have lost plot at that sort of money you could get a resonable tv amp and speakers and blu-ray player that is a fortune when people are loseing jobs every where in UK I don't think they will sell many of them in England way out of peoples reach when shops are discounting latest model lcd tvs at £349.00 which is £250 under retail price just to move metal and shops closeing all over place it is not good time for over priced players.
thx: These models are not intended for the avarage consumer. They are ment for the extreme hifi enthutiast and they are used to these prices. They are willing to pay big money for the right DAC etc and that costs.
For those who balked about the price, this player is just not for you. This player will have kick ass upscaling capability, super-duper DACs that are reserved only for performance minded who tend to own GBP 10,000 system and not for the GBP350 TV crowd.
my Anthem processor has only one set of 5.1 channel analog inputs and no HDMI inputs. So for this scenario, the new Denon is great because you can get SACD in 5.1 format as well as BluRay, which needs 5.1 (or HDMI if your processor has it) to take advantage of Dolby TruHD/DTS HD.
