DISH Network pulls up 30 stations short of 150 HD channels goal
It was a valiant effort, it really was, but unless DISH Network pulls 30 channels out of its back pocket this afternoon, it will fall short of its 150 HD channel goal. If you'll recall, the satcaster proudly proclaimed that it would be offering 150 high-def channels before the year's end, and with just hours to go (in this part of the world, anyway) before 2009 begins, it looks like failure is in sight. Now, there's nothing at all wrong with 120 high-definition stations -- we mean, hordes of cable subscribers would do unfathomable things for that many options -- but it's certainly good to call DISH on the rug in order to get those extra 30 out on the double. Let's make a deal, DISH -- you provide the remainder to the people within 30 days or so, and we'll pretend you meant before Chinese New Year.

Yes it seems they missed their deadline. The new sat is now running and Dish has said that channels will be added starting in January. Things sometimes don't go as planned, but I do believe they will have 150 channels by the end of February, that's fine with me, the 120 channels we have now are awesome, there's too much to watch. Also, it's not the number of channels that is important but rather the quality of the content and if it is true high def.
Dish has also said on the previous Charlie Chat that many more HD local channels will be added (many more cities) by February, including the ones I have waited for, Duluth, Minnesota. I don't think it's that important to call them out on it, yes it was promised to be 150, but I take their word that shortly it will be that number. Dish has been adding channels left and right this year adding over 60 high def channels and many local markets..in my opinion they are doing very well and I am very happy with my Dish service.
dish sucks, and the offerings from All American Direct in SD only are simply infuriating
love dish, need FOX NEWS CHANNEL. Hurry.
I guess their 'projection' changed....it was never a hard in stone number anyway...not defending them, just pointing out what they said.
Dish:
Hurry and add FX before Damages starts!!!!
There simply aren't 150 HD channels available right now. Never mind the "HD channels" that have yet to show one single program in actual HD. This is all marketing.
My biggest issue is the lack of Fox News in HD on Dish Network. I will probably wait a couple of more months to see that happens, but if they do not add Fox soon, I will likely be switching to Direct TV.
make the switch, you wont regret it
I must say that I'm pleased with Dish Network....no one particular service is perfect or
without its flaws. When compared to my current cable provider, Dish Network blows
them out of the water when it comes to choice, cost and picture quality. However, I
do hope that some new HD channels become available for E!, AMC, Fox News, Speed
Channel and my locals (Harrisburg, PA) package. With those, I'll be a happier
camper.
They are still waiting for satellite to be fully operational. As far as the price increase, dish has never increased there price. Its long over due so be thankful. Technology has changed. These changes are not free. Its cost over 2 million to put up a new satellite. They just put up 3 within 1 year, an another is yet to go up. you do the math.
I too am very pleased with Dish Network satellite service. To me having 120 HD channels is an awesome accomplishment and I am sure that DISH will meet their goal of 150 in the near future. I used to be a cable subscriber (Comcast) but after having Dish Network for the past few years, I will never go back to cable.
