In an announcement that has many sports fans in the Orlando and Tampa Bay area saying "about time," Bright House Networks and Fox Sports Florida has finally signed a carriage agreement. This isn't a moment too soon either as there are about 77 Orlando Magic games on the schedule each season. Although there is no mention of the HD channel in the release, we can only assume it's an oversight. Of course we're not sure how anyone could forget something as important as the HD channel number. Either way the SD version will be on channel 50 and will require a subscription to the digital tier.
Bright House Central Florida has a Channel 1000 that they air random sporting events on in HD. This agreement allows Bright House to carry the games in HD on Channel 1000 and the SD equivalent on FSN.
Watched the Magic game last night on the SD channel and it looked like crap. I'm still trying to figure out why they are using up an analog channel number for a digital only channel. Channel 50 that is only available with a box...yea...that makes a LOT of sense!
The channel 1000 thing for Bright House is highly annoying. You never know if the Magic or Lightning game is going to be in HD. So I have to remember after tuning to channel 31 to check channel 1000 to see if it is airing there too. Makes sense right?
Joe,
Generally, the magic schedule on the magic website indicates whether the game will be on 31 or 1000.
Yes the channel 1000 thing can be annoying, but it's better than nothing I guess. I don't have time to watch all the games, and I prefer to watch them in HD, so it kind of helps me pick which games to watch.
You do not need to be a "digital" customer to get it, thus the placement on Ch. 50. You may need a digital
tuner, but you don't need to sign up for the digital programming package. And the games produced in
HD are on Channel 1000.
