Denon's luxurious AH-D7000 headphones are nearly too pretty to use

You think we're kidding, but after spending around £800 ($1,164) on Denon's absolutely stunning AH-D7000 over-ear headphones, are you really about to squeeze your sweaty noggin in there without feeling the slightest bit guilty? The cans, which vaguely remind us of Audio Technica's ATH-ESW9, tout wooden ear cups made from natural mahogany, microfiber diaphragms, Acoustic Optimizer technology, a cloth-wrapped cable, gold-plated connector, magnesium frame / duralumin slider and leather ear pads. You'll also get a fanciful box to house 'em in when you're not enjoying the sweet sounds of twin 2-inch drivers, but sadly, a set of handcuffs aren't included for wearing them while waltzing through the occasionally dodgy streets of London. I recently had the pleasure of trying out the AH-D2000s and they were wonderful. I can only imagine the experience with their high-end model.

I have the AH-D2000's and they are simply WONDERFUL. Compared to my $100 Sony studio headphones I had before, these are a magnitude better (as in, hugely better). Only thing that pisses me off is they are made in China (come on Denon!)

If you want hi-end, closed-back headphones, these Denon's (2000, 5000, 7000) should be on the top of your list.

While my 2000's don't have the wood and some of the other luxury stuff the 7000's have, I don't feel at all guilty about using them heavily. I would imagine the team who designed this line of headphones would be delighted to see a pair chewed up and ugly from heavy use.

Just hope in 5 years, Denon will have replacement parts for me to buy!

I'm partial to my Grado RS-1, which also have employ mahogany. But these look better since the cans are more compact. They'll probably be more comfortable than my Grados are. But it would be interesting to do a side-by-side, as I think my headphones would still be better sonically. I'll be on the lookout for Denon. Thanks for the heads-up Darren.
