Panasonic officially premieres Z1 wireless HDTV
We may be years out from a commercially available 0.33-inch thick NeoPDP screen, but we aren't far from seeing a 1-inch think NeoPDP. We caught wind of this puppy at Panny's presser, but now we've got the official verbiage to back it up. The flagship 1080p plasma incorporates SiBEAM's WirelessHD technology, VIERA Cast support and a 54-inch panel. Other specs for the TC-P54Z1 include a 40,000:1 contrast ratio, a THX certification label and a 600Hz sub-field drive. We're pretty bummed that Panasonic hasn't disclosed the price and release date, but did you really expect anything different? Got to keep the hype building, right?

I am curious to see if some of these thin screens actually look good.
I'm pretty sure my great grandparents had a wireless TV. It got all the network stations on it, no cable needed! Oh wait! It had a power cord. Nevermind.
Here's Panasonic's 2009 HDTV lineup. I've made a comparison chart:

Thanks Ed. Some tangible info finally.
Given the new 40,000:1 CR, presumably they're using this new higher brightness / efficiency technology.
I'm curious about the lack of tuners on most models though... that seems pretty weird. I'm sure it cuts costs supporting standards internationally, but... most people expect that.

Z1 looks very nice but the one-glass V10 is quite impressive too in my opinion.
It's interesting that Pioneer showed this same thing last year. It's also interesting that Pioneer had nothing new to show this year.
On the other hand, Panasonic announced an actual product, and pioneer has not. I hope both of them convert their TVs to this form factor and efficiency level very soon.

Will de Z1 have a glossy screen? Looks like a matte screen on the pictures....
