Vizio presents 240Hz, LED backlit updates to the XVT series
Just nabbed a 55-inch 1080p Vizio XVT for Chrismakwanzika and feeling good about yourself? Consider a return, because the specs on the new models are here and the list is long. Music, 1080p movies (MPEG-2, h.264 & WMV9) or pics from a USB drive? The whole line has that with Vizio's Multi-media hookup, while LED backlighting, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 5 HDMI ports are kept exclusive to the $1,999 55-inch VF551XVT1A. 42- and 47-inch models share the 240Hz motion technology that's become so popular with their larger relative, but only rock 50,000:1 contrast and 4 HDMI jacks for $1,099 and $1,399 respectively. 32- and 37-inch aficionados can expect 120Hz refresh rates for $749 and $999 respectively when they ship in the fall, while the rest of the pack are summer babies. Of course, by then you'd probably want to wait for a Connected HDTV....we love this time of year.

It would have been funny if the competition actually released pricing for their new models.
Well, maybe not after they saw the price.
Two grand is a steal for a 55" display with this many features. Gotta love the "mega dynamic" 1,000,000 contrast ratio that only someone like Cyclops from the X-Men can appreciate. I'm curious about one thing, though: If 120 hz produces a "soap opera effect" in most displays, what would 240 Hz give you? Ultra-smooth, octopus-like fluidity? I can't imagine this looking remotely natural unless any additional processing can be deactivated while 10:10 pulldown takes place.
Any experts out there care to elaborate?
240hz > 120hz...
Stats game... that's all it is.
The biggest benefit to 240hz IMO is that it can do 48fps without any odd pull down, which means you can easily do 24fps movies shot in 3D, also I am told some animated films are in 48fps.
Not that this supports 3D, but that would be a reason I would want a screen that could do 240hz.
If I had $2000 to drop on a TV, I can tell you without a doubt no matter how awesome it is, it would never be a Vizio. Any person smarter than a glass of water would spend that hard earned cash on a Sony or Samsung, not a freaking Vizio. Nothing screams Wal-mart quality like Vizio, and that's the image they are going to have to struggle to get out of my head if they ever want to be a real brand. To me Vizio = Wal-mart.
That's why I LOVE VIZIO. It is the dividing like between the rich and ignorant and the rest of the population. They make GREAT LCD sets - and nothing you can say can knock them down.
You buy TVs to impress others - I buy TVs to be impressed. VIZIO = GREAT TV with 2K left over for audio.
