Pioneer's DV-420V upscaling DVD player somehow makes MP3s sound better
Pioneer already blew out its good stuff this morning, but it saved this gem for a little afternoon delight. The DV-420V 1080p upconverting DVD player not only makes your existing DVD collection look its best, but it's the first deck to feature "an exclusive MP3 encoding capability for supreme music portability." Oddly enough, those are pretty much the only details we're given on the subject, but the front-panel USB port enables playback of DivX files and JPEG shots if you find that of interest. We're thinking not, so you can feel free to save your $90 when it ships this summer.

I think you'll find that this is not new.
The last gen Pioneer players (the DV610 and possibly
DV410) had this feature already.
You can 'rip' audio tracks from your CD to MP3 with a USB stick and select the quality of recording.

Their even older DV600 had a very handy ability to play Audio & Divx files straight off of a USB stick (and I know people who had a hard-drive running from it for movies and music)
....and yes, my experience of the 6 series is that they are superb
DVD, SACD & DVD-Audio players.
The audio is it's strong-point, especially the analogue outputs - 24bit DACs and burr browns at this price are a very good deal.
i was a proud owner of the dv-400 for a year til i got a PS3. besides it being a little crushy with dark detail, this is the next best thing under an oppo, IMHO. that faroujda upscaler does a hell of a job...
I own the 600AV, it's a great player, extremly fast reponse times. I would love to see an update to that one (620AV???), or, even better, one with Blu-Ray capabilities. I have hopes that the BDP120 will have fast, multi-format and multi-region DVD features. Sigh.
Well they did release a DV610 last year
(and if there's a DV420 I'd presume a DV620 is going to accompany it as the analogue output SACD & DVD-Audio playback features unit).
I'm not sure exactly what the differences between the 600 & the 610 are but I doubt there'll be a lot in it (or even a new DV620).
Still it'd be nice to have their best in the series to date, I'm sure.
These players' playback of SD DVD files (including just about all and any Divx/Xvid you care to throw at it) is little short of amazing.
i have a 410 and i could load my 80 gig hd (fat 32) and it would play any avi file i threw at it mp3 jpegs just an all around great dvd player.
