Funny, I didn't see any "hands flailing wildly" in the video clip. Instead, it made me think of Tom Cruise manipulating that holographic device in "Minority Report." The way tech is progressing, there may be displays like that in 5 to 10 years.
Seems like Toshiba can't catch a break on this site no matter what they do. They're just as innovative as the next company. I suspect a different headline if Sony or Samsung were to announce something similar. Oh well...
The point is, it would be faster to use a mouse and keyboard. Sure, given time to master the gesturing so you can do it smoothly, you could put on an entertaining show, but if you just want to pick out a video to watch, the mouse would be way more efficient.
Laz, we might as well have stuck with the 'Model A' then eh??
I didn't say progress was bad. This is not progress, it's an alternative, not a replacement for anything. Given mastery it would be cool "looking", but I can think of no situation where it would be more efficient. Keyboard shortcuts are more efficient than mousing through menus, but mousing is "easier" for most people. This gesturing may be "easy", but it will be slower than just mousing
I just watched the video clip, I think it looks kind of awesome, obviously the idiot trying it was a beginner who didn't have a clue what he was doing, but for business presentations etc I could see this being enormously successful, certainly has a wow factor if you wanted to impress clients.
As engage said, if this was anyone but Toshiba on this rabid pro sony site, it would get a positive review.
