VIZIO's VP505XVT plasma gets a thumbs up from PCMag
We'll come right out and admit that we're pretty big on plasma displays, but a quick look around lets us know we're not alone -- VIZIO's 50-inch VP505XVT plasma scored high marks on the PCMag test bench, right across the board. After some tweaking of the out-of-the-box settings -- something every new set should undergo -- the design, inputs and performance of the set were all the the reviewer's liking. Factor in contrast that fell right between Panasonic and Samsung competitors, best-in-class video upscaling thanks to the onboard Reon HQV processing, and a pricetag $1000 lighter than the KURO panel, and it's easy to look past the always-on VIZIO logo on the front bezel. if you can't bear the thought of only your SD signals getting the Reon HQV treatment, take some of that savings and put it towards a video scaler.

No doubt that Vizio is doing some very good things with the introduction of the new XVT series of LCD's and Plasma's. They are also coming out with a blu-ray player in a price range that will compliment these terrific TV's. They would be at the top of my short list and that is really all Vizio is trying to do. Put them in the mix and they will sell a ton of stuff to the first and second time buyer.
I don't understand all the Vizio haters that will come out. Sure they compete on price, but so does Sony with the crap they sell in Wal-Mart and Target. If you want cheap buy cheap.
Vizio does have the hill to climb just like Hyundai and their car that is suppose to compete with the BMW 5 series.
I read CNET's review and I'm baffled by one thing - why would you ever want to change the aspect ratio? I've had an HDTV since 2002 (we've got 3 in our house) and I've never had a reason to change the aspect ratio beyond what's fed by Directv or Cox (though Cox is horrible in some many areas). Is it that people want to stretch the image if it's not HD?
Seriously, as long as it displays HD in 16:9 and SD feeds in 4:3, I don't see why you'd consider messing with aspect ratio.
I have this TV, and you can change the aspect ratio on SD Content, just not on HD which to me would be retarded anyway... So SD you can change you can force it to stay in 4:3 or stretch if if you must... HD you can't do anything to, but why would i want to? :p
Kevin, What do you think of this TV so far?
The TV is great for the price it really is an amazing deal... SD looks good, HD & Blu-Ray looks amazing as well... It's probably the 3rd best Plasma out.
I'd rather get the cheaper panasonic that has a better picture.
50" Kuro is only $2200 this week at BB
I love my entry level 32" Vizio LCD. It's performed exceptionally well for over a year and does an amazing job of handling SD content. I'm thinking of moving into the FullHD 50"+ Plasma field, and this set is definitely on my short list.
By far the best TV I have ever owned. You can't beat the quality you get from Vizio for the price you get it at.
