D-BOX scores deal to bring rumbling chairs to Mann Theatres
Ah, ha! So the rumors were true, after all. Just over three months after we heard that D-BOX was trying desperately to get its Motion Code technology into cinemas, we're finally seeing the first deal with a commercial theater chain. Mann Theatres, the operators of the famous Mann Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood, has become the first to first to allow D-BOX seating to be installed, with the initial installation taking place in theatre six of the aforementioned multiplex. There will also be a demo station setup in the lobby for moviegoers to "test drive" the rumbling, bumbling system, though there's no word on whether watching a flick in the D-BOX cinema will cost extra. In all seriousness, this deal is gigantic for D-BOX, and if a few more chains latch on, it won't be long before you see the technology's creator(s) sailing 'round the world and basking in their own glory.

Great. Over ten years ago I lived in Charlotte, NC for four years, they had a theme park called Paramounts Carowinds, they had lots of stuff related to Paramount movies, a Waynes World section with roaler coaster "the Hurler", they were building a new Top Gun Coaster, but the best part was a motion theater for "Days of Thunder" full of motion chairs. I must have done that 10-15 minute "ride" at least 100 times over the four years I lived there. It was one of the funnest things I ever did, immersive beyond anything else before or since. I hope in a year or two I can afford a couple Dbox seats for my theater.
With me putting in a projector and 7.1 surround system after my tax return, an upgrade from my current lcd plus 5.1 dolby system, I will have less reason than ever to go to the theater. 3d is the only thing that's likely to get me to shell out the money to go to the theater, but motion seating would definately get me back in the theater too. They've gotta do something, cause bluray + projector + surround means a lot of people now are getting a better entertainment experience in their home than at the theatre. Really, for most people I know, just getting an HD lcd with a dvd player and hd satellite is enough to keep them out of the theaters now.
