PA - After an on again off again situation Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia announced mid week that Verizon and the city of Philadelphia have signed an agreement. FIOS will be coming to PA the only question is how soon. Verizon is touting one time line and some council persons are looking for a faster install. Those same council persons are also not happy with the financial arangements regarding support of local access content. But as of now FIOS and Philadelphia are a team.
DE - in my own front yard in Whitehall (a surburb of Wilmington and New Castle) the fiber optic cable is now installed in the underground conduit. The conduit was placed last spring. Beginning on Monday the 19th Verizon crews placed the cables throughout the community. Midweek the splicers were here making one big cable out of all the shorter sections. As I understand it an inspection crew will follow at some future time to certify the cable for use. I'm not expecting that this coming week as the weather forecast is calling for snow all week long. But once that is done, according to one of the installers, Verizon will begin accepting subscriptions. I just hope they can get all this done in time for me to qualify for the DVR deal Verizon is using as its current incentive.
HP has had plenty of time to fine-tune its finger-friendly TouchSmart software, and now, its newest model, the TouchSmart 610, ushers in a fresh design, highlighted by a hinge that allows the display to slide down and lie nearly flat.
