However, the 3D effects were really well done. There were a few obvious shots where they were trying to showcase the tech, but even the regular scenes showed quite a bit of promise. The only problem that I could see is that the objects outside of the plane of focus were almost headache inducing. It was like an object being out of focus twice.

eng050599@hotmail.com

Comments on My Bloody Valentine 3D grosses way more in 3D than 2D

I really enjoyed the movie. It felt like riding a ride at a theme park to me. However, I'm getting tired of the cost increases for 3D movies. A year ago it was a $1 surcharge to watch a Real D movie and now they're charging $3. One ticket for MBV3D was $12.75. I don't know if all of the chains in the US are doing this or just Regal and Carmike, but I'm not happy with paying that much.

Lucas

Comments on My Bloody Valentine 3D grosses way more in 3D than 2D

I payed $10 to see it in 3d (RealD) at a really high end theater, and I thought that was still a bit much. I really enjoyed the movie, but I was in the RARE mood for a mindless old-school slasher movie and had low expectations going in. Still, I wasn't really impressed with the polarization technology. I though the depth of the 3d was great, but the glasses made the screen too dark and strained my eyes a bit. Motion looked choppy to me, and it always took me a second to focus on changing scenes. I really don't see the medium taking off with these problems. I'd actually like to try the shutter glasses for my new 3d samsung tv, but don't have $200 for a pair and I doubt the technology could ever make it to theaters.

Justin Maldonado

Comments on My Bloody Valentine 3D grosses way more in 3D than 2D

For what it was (a slasher film) it was actually decent. It's going to be a long time before people at home can get into a 3d setup, especially because it's going to be a bitch to wear glasses all the time, and I dunno about you, but I'll lose the things. At a theatre however, the atmosphere is different and lends more to having extra equipment on your head. I think that movie execs see this and realize that if they want to keep people going to the theatres in the future when TVs get bigger and better and everyone has the means to view 1080p content in their homes, they're gonna have to pull some kind of stunt. 3d may just be that stunt, and if it looks good, maybe it'll be worth everyone's time...

Nick

Comments on My Bloody Valentine 3D grosses way more in 3D than 2D

I manage a theatre, and we lost a lot of business this weekend because the film was not available in 3D at our location. The new 3d requires digital projection, which is still lacking in most theatres. While all the tv adverts touted the 3D aspect, there were actually 2 different posters produced, one for 3D and one for 2D. If you check for locatiosn online, most sites would list the film separely for 2D and 2D locations. And of course most customers have no idea whats required for 3D presentation, so they get pissed AND actually assume we are showing the 3D presentation WITHOUT the glasses. It is stunning! I am surprised I actually enjoy this movie. It sticks to the old fashion slasher movie elements, which is fine. But this movie is really about the technology...
