DirecTV pushing prices upwards in March
So, you thought all those cable carriers out there were going to raise prices while DirecTV sat idly by, adding enough HD channels to push it well over the 100 mark and be totally content with its current revenue stream? Wrong. Word on the street has it that the satcaster will be pushing rates up on a number of packages starting March 4th. We've got to say -- if there's one operator out there that can justify marginal increases, it's DirecTV. We mean, it's the HD leader, after all. The list of changes is far too long to cover here, so tap the read link and start pinching those pennies.[Thanks, Vanbrothers]

Their DVR service is increasing $0.01! How dare they?
I'm glad i have Dish Network... I just wish they'd start releasing the HD channels they announced last October! (Fox News HD???)
I called Dish to move to TurboHD Bronze, but they said it's not available to existing customers until Sunday (2/1). Not sure why, but seems like a pretty good deal.
Why are you glad you have Dish? EVERYONE is raising rates, Dish included

It sucks that they're raising rates, but even with that, its still a lot cheaper than Direct TV. My dad (who lives in the same city as I) has Direct TV and it costs him the same as what I pay.
What I get above and beyond him is more channnels (not necessarily all of them are HD though) and I have a DVR which has two zones.
If it's a lot cheaper then why is your dad's package cost the same as yours but he has more HD channels?? Directv might be a little higher (didn't check), but probably not by much.
Notice the only things that are costing us MORE money these days are government (especially here in NJ) and Telecom. Words cannot describe the utter disdain I have for both.

When they raise prices do we have the option to get out of our contracts?
I gotta say, we are VERY happy a year into our DirecTV service. When they raise prices I will have no problem paying more. We are on basic HD service and the amount of HD content we get is phenomenal.
You guys must lack access to FIOS or even U-verse if you think DirectTV is the HD leader.

Other than the premium movie channels, it looks like Directv has Fios beat to me.
I have Fios for internet, but Directv for TV.
Yup, they have more HD premiums, but on the standard tier stuff, I doubt that having QVC and World Fishing Channel are going to tilt the decision into FIOS/UVers's favor.
DirecTV is trying as hard as they can to lose me as a customer. Still no HD locals, I've missed several of my UK basketball games this year due to mysterious blackouts that don't affect the local cable company, and now rates are going up?
Why don't you just use an antenna to pick up your locals?
No HD locals and blackouts aren't DirecTV's fault, they're your local stations fault and whether they let DirectTV show them.
Because I am contractually bound with DirecTV my only recourse is this effects my account will be to reduce programming.
If I cannot break my contract then I'll be damned if I am going to be held hostage. :)
I really hope I never get to a point in life where a $3 increase on my TV bill makes me think I am being "held hostage."
I absolutely LOVE my DirecTV and have at no point worried about my bill, and with the Premier package, HD and DVR and 5 TV's my regular bill is like $145 and during the football season about $190. And I pay it gladly because god only knows how high that bill would be with Charter, and I would have NOWHERE near the options I have with DirecTV.
I've had Directv HD for 10 years now, back when it was just one channel. They still kick everyone's butt.
FIOS not here in indy!!
Directv is great until they force you to buy a new receiver for an extra tv. Cable lets you use their receivers for free. And when there is a problem with "your" equipment, they try to charge you for a tech visit. When I move to my new house, I will definitely switch back to cable. It's just not worth the hassle.
