I'm not "overseas", I'm right here. I just don't happen to be in the US. Do we need to add a warning before entering the website: all articles published from a purely US perspective, "foreigners" enter at own risk? Doesn't Engadget cater to a world-wide audience? It seems very unnecessary to me to constantly look at everything from a purely US viewpoint. Nothing wrong with the US - love the place - but it's silly bordering on weird to pretend that all Engadget readers are Americans living in America.

Carl He

Comments on Philips' 56-inch Cinema 21:9 HDTV: not for Americans

I'd say it has more to do with where the bloggers live. If everyone (or nearly everyone) writing for Engadget is from the US and they know many of the readers (but certainly not all) are as well, then you tend to slant things towards a specific audience.

madgamer

Comments on Philips' 56-inch Cinema 21:9 HDTV: not for Americans

Seriously, how big do you think the market for this TV really is? I mean, watching 4:3 content on this TV wouldn't be a great experience at all. There are no TV shows (as opposed to movies shown on TV) filmed in anything wider than 16:9. So this is (obviously) a TV optimized for movies, but many movies are filmed in 16:9. While I definitely agree that many movies would look awesome on this screen, I agree with someone else who posted earlier - if you're that into movies, you already own a projector (or are about to upgrade to one). A 2009 HD projector in a dark room with a 2.35:1 screen will beat this TV to a pulp displaying BDs. So who's the target audience?

Carl H

Comments on Philips' 56-inch Cinema 21:9 HDTV: not for Americans

I think it's a decent size for a normal living room.
