We've received reports from one side of the country (New York) to the other (Hawaii) from locals that have just received their long anticipated DTV tuning adapter. This week's poll question is quite simple, really: have you received yours? If so, how long did it take to arrive, and what carrier are you using? If not, chime in below with how long you've been waiting, where you are and what operator is being lazy on you.
im no expert but i think you are referring to the SDV Tuning adapter for TiVo? Not a DTV Adapter....I think DTV Converter boxes can be purchased by the truckload at walmart! If you dont require a Gov. Coupon.
That's the problem, the ones requesting and hording the government vouchers probably pay $100+ a month for cable or sat already. Yea one may have a tv in a bedroom using just an antenna, but do your part and pay the one time $40 yourself and quit being a load on society. Oh and vote out all these clueless politicians that go forward with voucher programs like this that don't verify need over want.
i haven't bought one cuz i have a hi def tv in my front room and in my kifds room they have comcast in the room so no need to the coupons in my household but i my girlfriend"s dad has them boxes and the pics are pretty good but he still cant get channel 2 in our market(chicago).....imean i pretty much have comcast but ima upgrade to fios if it ever hit in indiana cuz comcast is full of shit over here i lived in a neiboring city where i had comcast hidef but when i move to the city next door and now i cant get the same hidef that i had before i called them only to here that they will not be bringing hidef channels to this city(gary, ind) man thas horse shit i told them so i am waiting on verizon i kno i kno it more than i should be typing lol
As of right now, 463 (64.7%) of readers who have answered this poll say that they "haven't even requested one" from their cable company. I'm a bit confused. How can this be? Are you telling me that there are people out their who forked out the money for a TiVo Series3 or TiVo HD who are still sticking with cable, but for some reason aren't interested in a Tuning Adapter?
I live in San Antonio, and have Time Warner, so we have SDV, meaning that a Tuning Adapter is absolutely necessary if you hope to get the most out of your TiVos here (If you have any hopes of getting all the HD channels available in your area). But I guess that may not be the case everywhere. But if SDV isn't an issue where you live, then I'd assume Tuning Adapter's aren't available in your area either. Which would suggest that "haven't even requested one" wouldn't be a relevent answer. However, if SDV does affect your area, then I would think that any card-carrying, red-blooded American with a TiVo should proudly say that they have their Tuning Adapter (despite its flaws), or they should be disappointingly that their CableCo hasn't stepped up to the plate yet. But to say they haven't even requested one is just absolutely mind blowing!
Can we have a redo on this article and poll? Looks like most people thought that this article was about digital television adapters, which have been available forever and a day, and voted accordingly... but it looks like this article was SUPPOSED to have been about SDV Tuning Resolvers for use with TiVo (and possibly, eventually, other consumer electronics devices).
I don't fault the readers - the article and headline confused terminology.
I second, third and fourth the other comments. The title of this article is confusing, especially in light of the DTV cutover. Engadget HD, please do-over the poll! I would be interested in the new responses.
Time Warner San Diego has totally blown this. They sent letters in October saying they would be available by the end of the year, but January rolled around and they had no idea when they'd be getting them. They finally got a request page up last week, but it still doesn't give a date and the CSRs still don't have a clue when they'll be coming.
TWC San Diego has the tuning adapters in their labs testing. They should have them deployed soon. They've had them for a few weeks but are finishing up testing. It shouldn't be much longer.
My guess is that those americans who only watch OTA analog TV don't even know what engadgethd.com exsts and will be under represented in this poll. So here is there vote:
Can't answer now there are some kids on my lawn. 2,674,000
I live in North Hollywood (SoCal) TWC is my provider I put in request for my SDV in late November, website said they are testing it and it will ship in December, few weeks later I got my TiVo 3 Series got it connected, setup added Nextflix I turned it on and voila everything is way better, nicer faster, but some of channels I am paying for Encore among others, ESPN News don't work anymore.
At the end of December I went to TWC website again, and this time site said they are testing boxes again but they will not be available until January, requested another one in January, right now its February, still no box, been two months that I have been paying for a service I do not receive, went to return my cable box, sales person had NO CLUE what SDV is.
Great job TWC way to go, take my money give me nothing in return.
I'm not on TV Welfare. In fact, I pay $200/month to educate other people's moments of indiscretions. Spending $50 on something I truly do not need is welfare abuse.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

Mitchell
You're correct, Mitchell. This is the SDV tuning adapter, not the DTV converter, that they seem to be intending to talk about.

Cablevision hasn't even offered them to us yet. I'd have requested one if I could have...
Got one for primary TV/TiVo, awaiting another for bedroom TV/TiVo. Another friend in town hasn't yet gotten even one, so I'm being patient!

Has anyone tried this with Media Center and the ATI Cable Card Tuners?
ATI Digital TV Tuners do not support the SDV adapters

I know they are not officially supported but has anyone tried it???
