Windows 7 gets Hauppauge HD-PVR support via 3rd party

The HD-PVR FAQ on Hauppauge's website has always been very clear that the reason why there wasn't support for Windows Media Center was because when it comes to Live TV, Vista Media Center couldn't handle h.264. So it should come as no surprise that now that the Windows 7 Beta has been out for a bit, someone has figured out a way to get the two to play together. The DVBSBridge add-on is available now for those who can't wait for Hauppauge's drivers and are of course running Windows 7 -- Vista fans need not apply -- but we'll warn you; we just took a look at the directions and this is not for the faint of heart.

Yes that is correct. This feature is commonly known as transcoding, analog to digital conversion or upconversion. All new receivers in the same price range as this, inlcuding the Onkyo 606, Pioneer 1018, Marantz 5003 and Yamaha 663 support this method. The main differences between all of these models is the type of automatic equalization used, number of HDMI inputs and of course power ratings. I just bought the Onkyo 606, LOVE IT!

Sadly (for you), that's not it at all.

This is actually much cooler: Win7 users can watch videos off this nifty little box WITHOUT transcoding.

Windows Media Center on my computer won't even anymore. It stopped working 3 days after a clean install of Windows 7 for no reason.

I've been a customer of the HD PVR for the past 6-mo's...and am totally stoked about how fast my High-Def media library is growing.
I'm not a huge fan of the Arcsoft software that comes bundled with it, and am totally looking forward to official Win7 support.
SageTV and BeyondTV (by Snapstream) are solid alternatives, if you're willing to spend a little more dough ;)
