Logitech's Harmony 1100 now shipping to tidy living rooms everywhere
While we're happy to eschew buttons for touchscreens on some things, we're still not entirely sold on the Harmony 1100's (relatively) minimalist design, an update to that display-focused layout first seen on the 1000. Most like to use remote controls without looking down, and that could be a bit of a challenge here. However, as the buttons on most Harmony remotes tend to start failing after about 12 months or so, perhaps ditching most of them is a good move for Logitech. Regardless of the intent, if you're so sick of multiple controllers you're willing to spend $500 on the company's latest and greatest, you'd better get that credit card warmed up and click the read link. Our failing economy thanks you.

$500?
They're out of their minds if they think I'm going to pay $500, especially when 8-device learning remotes can be purchased for 1/10 the price on Amazon.
$500 is a small price to pay to get that Captain Kirk feel out of your Home Theater.
Logitech does make some pretty good remotes at lower price points too. I've got a Harmony 880. Having 1 Remote that controls the TV, TiVo, Receiver, BD Player, Xbox 360 and Apple TV is pretty nice.
Who uses a VCR anymore? Probably not someone who just spent 500 clams on a remote. Of course for the non HDTV crowd this could be good news.
ZeitgeistXIII @ Who uses a VCR anymore?
The button functions and their icons/legends are completely customizable. You connect to Logitech's servers and tell it to download the exact configuation and remote code sets that you need for your equipment.
Mine now has "buttons" that read HD DVD, Blu-ray, Xbox 360, etc., for example.
$500 is MSRP
I've seen it online here and there in the mid to high $300s
Buttons start failing after 12 months? I've have 3 Harmony's (1 Xbox 360, 2 550's) all of which are over a year old and work just as well as the day I purchased them.
That said, I completely agree with the comment about using the remote without looking down. This remote seems counter intuitive to me.
can someone tell me what is updated on this remote over the 1000? All I can see that is different is the color.
Here on planet Earth, the average consumer isn't going to spend $500, or even $350, on a remote. Add in the current economic conditions.... ouch.
DIY enthusiasts routinely spend $10-$30K on their HT setup; I hardly think $500 is exorbitant.
Crestron can't stop selling the new $3800 TPS-6X. Is that too expensive for a remote?
It's all relative.
Well I really like my 1000 and have had it for quite some time and it still works great. It's also one of only a few Harmony Remotes you can use the RF Module with. I can be in the other room and still fully control my setup. Not having to point my remote just right for everything to work correctly. I don't have a problem using 2 hands to use the remote. Sure there's a few minor annoying things, but it's still the Best remote I've used yet. I'll never go back to the pile of remotes hell of the past.
The 1100 seems to be a minor Upgrade, if I didn't have the 1000 I'd buy it. I was hoping for a major update to the 1000, oh well.
