Windows Media Center gets channel logos, finally
We're a big fan of Windows Media Center around here -- where else can you get a truly multiroom DVR solution after all -- but for whatever reason there are a few glaring missing features that have kept us scratching our heads for years. One item on that list that we can finally check off in Windows 7 is channel logos. Sure, this wasn't as high on our list as dual live buffers or the ability to record the Live TV buffer, but it is a welcomed addition. What we still can't figure out though, is why Microsoft hasn't added this years ago? And even more so, why even now is a 3rd party that got it to work? The good news is that My Channel Logos for 7MC is not only a free plug-in, but open enough that you can add your own logos -- this has some particularly interesting uses for those channels your significant other likes, but you don't.

I've been using this in W7 for a week or two now it it works great!
sorry for the lame question but i figured you guys would know best...
i would like to build an htpc sometime soon, which tv tuner should i get (around or under $100) to play nicely with vista ultimate?
The newest build of this fails for me on Windows 7 64bit - until they fix the problem (looking in the wrong place for logos) just make a copy of the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\My Channel Logos into C:\Program Files\ and it'll startup.
It's a touch messy, as you'll have to copies of it, but at least it works :)
Is it just me or does all that empty space at the bottom just screeming "Your Add Here".
Yeah, I hate it when they put arithmetic everywhere.
The space on the bottom left is for the live video if you have any video open at the time.
They probably don't include the logos OOTB because of copyright issues.

U-Verse. Of course the set-top boxes are basically dedicated WMC boxes soooo....never mind
MythTV.org, too...
Though, I will fully admit, Linux hardware compatibility isn't as good as Windows. But, then, the hardware requirements are much lower - I'm running my Mythbox on 1.3GHz and 512MB of RAM... I'd like to see WMC do that! :P
SageTV too, with extenders that actually play H264 mkv's and just about any other format you throw at it.
"the set-top boxes are basically dedicated WMC boxes..."
Not true. At all. Entirely different product, entirely different code base. Similarity in design perhaps, but no WMC code involved.
i havnt yet installed w7 but been wanting too to check out w7 media center, ive seen screenshots and it looks really good, can anyone put up some video of it in action??
This app really makes the guide screen look awesome. It does come with a fairly complete set of US logos, and a small set of UK logos too.
Microsoft has stated the reason for not including the logos is the requirement to go to each and every station to ask for permission to use their logo. Managing and keeping that set of legal agreements up-to-date would be costly. Thanks lawyers!
I couldn't let this statement go:
"where else can you get a truly multiroom DVR solution after all"
1. SageTV
2. Snapstream BeyondTV
3. GBPVR
4. MythTV
5. MediaPortal
etc., etc.
Glad to see Media Center get channel logos finally. It's about time.
-where else can you get a truly multiroom DVR solution after all-
Yea, SageTV.
And far better than Media Center. Of course MS and cable labs have made sure that no one else can use cable cards, but I'd rather have Sage and three set top boxes than bother with media center.
I looked into all this recently, as soon as I found there was no PC client for Media Center (say what!?!?), there was no point.
Build your own XP system with a couple terabytes of storage, and a decent processor, and a gig of memory and you're set. I'm running a Pentium D 2.8 and it performs with sage perfectly.
Way to go! Something as simple as logos help enforce branding and when quickly scrolling through a guide of 100+ channels, you can quickly visualize the channel your looking for by it's logo.
WMC7 = 10 Comcast DVR = 0
Winner = WMC7 by far!
good, but they really need to add a option to save other type of format, cause the default format only works with media player and can't be convert...Also i get far fewer channel than my tv set..
What do you mean by saving to other format?
