LG denies withdrawing from plasma market... in the UK, anyway
Take this as you will, but George Mead, the Marketing Manager for Digital Displays at LG Electronics UK, has informed T3 that LG Electronics UK has no intention to withdraw from the plasma TV market." To be perfectly clear here, this statement probably is in relation to UK market plans only; after all, those words from company VP Lee Gyu-hong were pretty strong. At any rate, Mead continued by noting that "we have recently implemented a bespoke strategy to promote and market plasma TVs here in the UK," but he failed to specifically touch on LG's worldwide plans (and understandably so). So yeah, it looks like LG PDPs are still safe for the moment across the pond, but we wouldn't be so sure about the rest of the developed world.

Plasma is too expensive to manufacturer and therefore will die.........
Wow this is a misinformed statement if I have ever seen one. Plasma is actually cheaper to manufacture at this point than LCD. Look at the pretty significant price gap when you look at LCD's 52" and Larger. There is usually a $300-$500 price difference and that is not even including the LCD's that are worth buying such as the Samsung 950 series. Here you pay a 1K premium for a TV that almost performs to Plasma standard.
People don't realize...Panasonic...the largest Plasma manufacturer will double the amount of Panels this year...why because people are starting to wise up.
There's no justice in this world.
You should die instead.
LG is, was and I guess they always will be Dumb!...
It's kinda obvious, Plasma's Days Are Numbered Already...
it is sad to me reading every plasma related user post in engadget saying ugly things about this technology...feels like a bunch of people are really happy seeing plasma sink...specially those who couldn't afford a Kuro...and maybe that's the real reason of so much plasma-hate...
I hope Panasonic, Samsung and LG continue to improve their plasma technology in the foreseable future...people must have the choice to choose between different technologies (being plasma, LCD or even OLED) and right now...plasma has the better picture quality for an amazing price wether you like or don't...you just can't ignore so many reviews from respected sources...in the end you just buy what you want...just don't deny a technological fact: plasma is still a better HDTV overall
Agree with Darth, why would anyone prefer a display with worse blacks, blurrier motion, backlight issues (Sony's cloudy screen issue springs to mind), worse contrast, worse Standard Def picture quality, less calibrativity and more unnatural colour, just because its cheaper? Not so bothered about LG as they are mid-low range, but Pioneer's announcement was a real blow to those that value quality over cheapness.
