Samsung BD-P1600 Netflix streaming Blu-ray player pops up at retail
Samsung's new value priced Blu-ray player managed to fly under our radar at CES in favor of its better equipped brethren but that hasn't stopped Dave Zatz and others from stumbling into them at retail lately, like this one sitting on a Best Buy shelf. By making BD-Live required 1GB storage and WiFi dongle aftermarket accessories, you can grab a slim, Netflix streaming, fast Blu-ray loading box for $299. Right now we'll probably wait until the whole product line appears and prices slide down a bit more before considering picking one up, but depending on your needs this could be a good option, more pics of this bird in its unnatural habitat beyond the read link.

I don't get it.. 1600 should be like next gen 1500 right? $299?! You can pick up BD2500/BD2550 for that money.
Are they raising the prices? I picked up 2 of my BD1500s for $178 and now they are pricing them at $299?
This is not good. I wonder how much the new models that are above 1500 will cost. $800?!
Our store has the 1600 ($299) and 3600 ($399). Very nice players. Ultra-fast loads and very well designed overall.
Hi Ken,
Where are you located. I didn't know the 3600 was coming until April. It the 3600 wifi? What area of the country are you in?
thx,
Jim
I disagree with Ken, the load time on the 1600 is still slow as the 1500.
Well I won one of these bad boys and like it a lot. It falls right between the 1500 and the 2500 as far as specs goes.
As for Bozster, don't compare online prices to instore Best Buy prices. The 1500 is being clearanced out at BB for $250.
Again..I bought mine a week and a half ago at $180 at BB..
Well you clearly got some sort of deal, idk what it was because the price of the 1500 is $250 and the 2550 is $350 at BB. The 1600 has features right inbetween those two and is $300 so it is priced correctly.
Just to throw this out there... Best Buy also has the BD-3600, with built-in wifi for $399. AWESOME.
If you are considering this purchase, be aware, as i just learned while trying to hook mine up, that for wireless, you need specifically a SAMSUNG wireless lan adapter. BB doesn't even have these in the store, only online. AND they are sold out. Amazon has a vendor on there that happens to have one. But total pain in the ass, after being told I didn't need anything extra.
Just bought samsung 1600 at best buy Tuesday like it mostly. Had a sony upconvert previously not the quality of this player. i have a samsung lcd tv that turns on and finds the right channel when a disc is put in the samsung 1600. IS this part of BD Live? Also runng cat6 cable to it from G router directly. Never tried wireless though. Streamed movie from netflicks loaded and played in what it said was HD quality. Tried to access blue ray features while playing blue ray movie said out of memory? Suppose to have a gig on board? Did some Pandora and netficks loading but come on out of memory? Saw teo usb ports may need a flash drive?
