Sony looks to help consumers out with new swivel HDMI cables
Sony's launching its own version of the suddenly popular swivel head HDMI cable, with both vertical and horizontal links going on sales this month in lengths of about three or six feet. At $50 and $60, respectively, they solve the need for "costly" 90 degree adapters ($3 or so at Monoprice or other online retailers) and save space on flat panel wall mounts. Of course, if you were planning on wildly overpaying for HDMI cables already, they're really not that bad. It's all about perspective.

At those ridiculous prices, Sony is not helping me at all. Monoprice FTW baby.
The are swiveling the wrong way.
At least its a start for a major company to realize there is something wrong with the design of HDMI and its cables...
How about one that just stays plugged in??
what a rip off, nothing to see here, move along...
So let me get this right..
I can buy a 15' HDMI 1.3a cable at monoprice for like $5 and $3 for the adapter. That's $8 total and why again should I pay Sony $50-$60?
LOL.. Helping consumers my ass.
Still, a lot cheaper than a Pioneer plasma..............
If they build the TV to have the HDMI ports in the right position to begin with, e.g. HDMI ports should point downwards instead backwards, you don't need any adapter.
So, they deliberately design the TV with wrong port position. Then try to sell you a special cable to rip you off. Good business plan.
Are you kidding me? I have a television with the HDMI ports facing downwards and it's just as bad as having them straight up. One of my cables kept sliding out a bit so the signal would be lost till I put it back in, another cable head became loose because it was a thick 24AWG cable and couldn't fit in the space given.
They needed to have HDMI have a locking feature from the start, or screws like DVI and VGA.
