Slumdog Millionaire goes from Academy Awards stage to Blu-ray disc March 31
Fresh off an Academy Awards Best Picture win (beating out Blu-ray sales king & BD screened The Dark Knight), Fox is dropping Slumdog Millionaire into homes quickly, with a DVD / Blu-ray release planned March 31. Beyond being an incredible award-winning film, it's reportedly one of the first winners filmed mostly in digital, which should let the 1080p transfer with English or Hindi 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks come through exactly as the director intended. Also included are three Blu-ray disc exclusive features (From Script To Screen: Toilet Scene, Indian Short Film - Manjha, Bombay Liquid Dance Music Video) and a digital copy.

Could they pimp that box any more with their Oscar win? Honestly now!
This movie is terrible. I'll be buying this ummmm never.
Their culture disgust me.
Seeing as it was bashed by their own culture as being a cheap western exploitation bit I guess it'll always struggle to figure out where it belongs given that the story production and so on all came from the west, not from them.
Ignorance still exists...
Oh I'm sorry video master, I didn't know it was indians who only use
public outhouses (AKA Port-a-Potties)...
Did you even get the point of the movie? It was about kids from one
of the worst poverty filled places in the world.
I'm pretty sure there are Americans in this country who still use
outhouses today. And as for your smart-ass comments about wiping with
paper as opposed to water. Please tell me what a bidet does? Washes
your ass with water. What's more sanitary than water? It's common
fact that obviously washing is better than wiping. But over here, we
are privileged enough to have and use toilet paper for convenience (I
use baby wipes to finish).
But in a country of over a billion with millions living in the dire
conditions, I'm sorry you find it offensive they cannot afford
triple-ply Charmin.
We don't need ignorant or racist posts like yours on Engadget. Quit being so ethnocentric.
Well the fact is that they take dumps in those unsanitary outhouses, use a bowl of water to clean their arse out and have to pay for toilet paper. Then they think our culture is nasty for using toiler paper. Please...
Video Master you're a complete and utter dumb fuck you know that. You bash their 'culture' for using those out houses as toilets... you clearly have no idea why they were using them in the first place. But let me try and explain it to you. They lived in slums, know what a slum is? If not look it up. Because it was a slum there was no real plumbing or any money to afford toilets. And heres the important part coming up. It isn't Indian cluture to use out houses with holes leading into a river as toilets, they do actually have toilets in India. Get your head out of your arse you ignorant cunt. I'm guessing you're one of those arrogant Americans who think that everyone who isn't white is a terrorist and that you're so superior. And just before you say anything I'm not indian, I'm from europe. Dunno what europe is either? I wouldn't have thought so.
+1 jack
Forgive Video Master. He's still reeling over results of the the last US presidential election.
LOL! Great comment! +1 for you too!
Jack and HC - you both are ignorant Fu$ks. Just because I have an opinion about something that makes me a racist? If I hate the fact that Muslims hate Americans does that make me a bigot? In your eyes it does. Both of you are using reverse racism thinking that every white person is racist because they don't agree with the way you do things. I could care less about skin color and I bang girls with different nationalities all the time. I guess that if I don't understand why these idiots no matter how poor they are - throw trash all over the ground? I guess thats a racist concept according to you schmucks.
Can anyone explain to me and i'm sure countless others why this movie and every other movie has to be launched in Blu/HD? Does Slum Dog contain any action sequences for me to justify spending the extra coin?
Is this really a question? You are on engadget HD after all!
Just because you might not see the value in having HD video does not mean others won't, you are more then welcome to buy the DVD but for those that value PQ more, well they will go for the BD version.
Why does it need action scenes to justify it? Look at some of the amazing stills from The Kite Runner (on dvdbeaver) or A Passage to India to see how Slumdog could excel in HD. The most impressive HD shots to me so far are not explodey crap but the sheer depth and detail revealed in more sedate scenes.
Action scenes almost never justify HD. You want to see HD at its best, you need movies that contain many scenes that are slow paced and atmospheric.
2001 is great in HD.
Blade Runner is great in HD.
Planet Earth is great in HD.
The Bourne trilogy? Live Free or Die Hard? Not so much. They have a few scenes where the HD really shows if you see them in HD, but they're a few seconds long and you wouldn't miss them if they weren't there.
I really don't understand where the notion that action movies are somehow the only good movies to see in HD, they're almost always on the end of the list of movies you should be watching in HD. Fast paced movement = no time to see and concentrate on details.
It actually does have some action sequences. It has a little bit of everything.
Is that really the cover art? I mean...wow...
"Fresh off an Academy Awards Best Picture win (beating out Blu-ray sales king & BD screened The Dark Knight)"
The Dark Knight wasn't even NOMINATED for Best Picture. I'm not saying that doesn't make the statement accurate, I'm just making tossing that out there as a reminder for anyone who might be upset that The Dark Knight didn't win.
Love Danny Boyle films...but have had absolutely no inclination to see SDM..dont know why but it's probably all the hype that its received that has been just off putting. As well, can't stand Indian bollywood music, annoying and sucks ass. Can't believe SDM won best music award...what a farce the Oscars is.
