PlayOn media server upgraded with Amazon VOD & plugin beta
Just in time to ease worries that your Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or other DLNA-capable device was falling behind the Roku video player in video capability, MediaMall has updated its PlayOn software for Amazon Video On Demand access. Version 2.59.3352 went out earlier today and also enables a beta version of its plugin system, that should allow interested providers to put their feeds into the PlayOn browser starting right now with Revision3. What's next? ABC.com on the content side and the Nintendo Wii on the hardware end. Of course, we could've just mentioned the (still working) Hulu to your TV access which is at least enough reason to give it a trial run.

play on isnt bad i did the trial, and it keeps getting better but im not willing to fork over the subscription fee until they support hd from netflix
The problem is Netflix does not support HD to PC/Browser devices. My understanding of PlayOn is it opens that PC type connection to Netflix, then converts to Xbox/PS3 friendly streaming.
It says on there website that it is only a one time fee. Unless they have the subscription fee details buried in the fine print.
Who gives a shat about PlayOn those LOSERS don't even support macs. LOSERS!!!
Too expensive at $30+
Sell it for >$15 and I'd buy it.
Are you kidding me? To much?
Alright let me break this down for you.
For 39.99 *current price* you get Play on. It's a one time fee product. Access Hulu, Youtube, Netflix. Tons of content there. Quality isn't bad (no netflix on a 360) but it's still really nice.
Cancel cable. Saved me +45.00 a month. With in the first month I've saved 5.00 dollars. Month 2 +45.00 back into my account. It pays for itself instantly.
I do wish I didn't have to update it so much. It takes only a minute to update but my PC is on another floor in the house so it's a bit of a pain.
It went UP $10?
went from too much to WAY too much. Forget it.
I think they are shooting themselves. I would bet sales would more than double if they cut the price in half giving them more revenue overall.
I would rather spend it on a game.
Doing just fine without cable anyway.
I struggled with paying for it - it wasn't working great on my set-up... then i hardwired my ps3 and now, coupled with the upgrades, it works almost flawlessly for me. Occasionally I have to give it a few minutes to buffer - but that may be my IP. One thing that frustrates me is that early versions appear to be rendered inoperable whenever they release an update - this is just a minor annoyance as when i get a moment at night to sit down and watch tv it pisses me off to have to get back up again and do what is more or less a reinstall of playon...
not a huge problem and certainly not a deal-breaker - i am happy with the purchase.
i am pushing 30 now and i feel like my "generation" is one of the first of the tech age...it seems like these advancements have been typically by and for the young - but now that the computer generation have money advancements like this are going to push the price-gouging cable companies down a peg. Why in the world would I pay $80+ a month when I can hulu/netflix/BT anything I want and pick up 18 or so digital OTA channels for free on my antenna...
All I need now is a better way to stream live broadcasts to my TV other than ORB or just opening a web-browser on my tv...
cable companies need to offer channel by channel selection or they are on their way out.
commercial? wtf is a commercial?
