It's been a while since we first caught wind of the mysterious
Toshiba Camileo S10, but the pocket camcorder has finally broken loose, and it's looking like a pretty solid competitor to the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak Zi6 -- it amps up the video resolution to 1080p and also takes five megapixel stills. That's pretty impressive for a pocketcam spec sheet, but the best part is the price -- if this thing lands Stateside for close to the £130 ($181) UK pricetag, we'd have to find reasons
not to snap one up.
Pocket-lint got a few hands-ons photos of the little bugger, check 'em out at the read link.

Improved resolution is neato, but it's nothing without a decent lens and compression.
I have to ask: When we're talking about sensors this small, can anyone tell the difference between 720p and 1080p captures?
It's the megapixel race all over again, but for HD video. On small sensors, there's no difference between an 8 MP and a 12 MP sensor. Except for more noise on the 12 MP.
Why wouldn't it be the same when you're talking about shooting 1080p video on a tiny sensor?
1080p is still just 2 megapixels... so while I'm not sure, I would think that even with a small sensor you wouldn't have hit the same level of diminishing returns that you would in a point and shoot camera up at 5x (or more) the resolution.
H.264 sounds pretty compelling to me!
Let's hope this does a better job than the Sony Webbie. Hopefully it won't have the wobble problem most of these pocket HD camcorders have but I won't hold my breath...

HD, yay.
How's the audio going to sound on that thing, though?
Do any of these things have image-stabilization??
