Cablevision to stop selling analog TV by year's end
While RCN has been crushing analog all over America, it's Cablevision making the decision to totally nix the sale of analog service by 2010. Granted, only five percent of its 3.1 million video customers currently receive its analog expanded basic package, but it's still a move in the right direction. Of note, those folks currently receiving analog will still get their fix when we ring in the next new year, but the carrier will no longer be marketing those analog services after 2009. Remember kids, less analog means more space. And more space means more channels. And more channels often means more HD.

Except for one market, for which they don't even have a timeline for analog crush, RCN is already digital-only everywhere.
...and no analog means all digital and all digital means QAM and QAM usually means encryption which means box rental fees.
Profit!!!
Which is also means if I have to get a box, I might as well look for dish or FIOS alternatives. Comcast is doing this (analog moving to digital ) and a couple of months ago removed some stations that I really watched. I priced their upgrade to digital and priced dish packages and I'm going dish in a couple of months.
I'm waiting, because I look at the dish packages and might as well go HD. I'm trying to decide which set to get.
Back when I was a CSR for Cablevision 5 years ago, they told us they weren't advertising any analog service so they could push iO harder. Man that was a great job....
