Poll: Are you still buying DVDs?

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Where's the "I torrent 1080p rip" option?
Do you think it would be appropriate for another site to have a poll about what kind of clothing people buy and for there to be an option for "I steal all my clothes"?
I mean, when will the clothing industry get it? When will they give the people what they want?
When I took this poll I was a little surprised at the results, but then quickly remembered what website I am on. Please, don't get me wrong, I am all for the transition from DVD to Blu Ray and digital downloads, but I would say a large majority of Americans are still purchasing DVDs and only DVDs. Why? Well, first of all, not everyone is a videophile and is simply satisfied with the DVD. They already own a DVD-player and see no need to purchase a new system for a format that uses similar media (by this I mean that they are both disc-based, and a lot of consumers will automatically assume that there isn't much difference between the two strictly based on this.... where with VHS to DVD it went from a tape to a disc and more people made the jump more quickly). As a teenager with little money of my own, I buy what I can and take what I get. I have no PS3, still gotta PS2. My family currently owns one DVD player for our entertainment center (living room) and uses the two PS2 systems as DVD players for my and my sister's bedroom. I would like to upgrade to BluRay and have told my mom about it... she showed a little interest, but isn't really techy and is satisfied with what we have. Of course, I make the occasional digital download purchase from iTunes for computer/iPod viewing (as well as TV viewing via a cable), but other than that my family hasn't really made any foray into the future of media/movies.... I think the majority of Americans, like it or not, are just like us. The rest are more interested in the technology (people here on Engadget HD) or have been seriously impressed after viewing a BluRay movie. Am I correct?
(Oh, and by the way... I'm not one of those people. I know for a fact that Blu Ray market share is going to go up steadily as prices decrease and it will become more of the standardized format.... I'm going to say that my household won't have a Blu-Ray player though, until at least quarter 4 of this year... but the format is definitely not going anywhere and is certainly not failing.)
You bet I am still buying DVD's. I'm not buying Blu-Ray until Hollywood stops releasing movies in DVD format. Since that won't happen for a LONG time, DVD is the way to go for me!!
Yes, I've also now realised it's completely pointless to buy movies, well, unless it's the ones I KNOW that I'll watch a lot, plus all the extras/commentary. For now, I rent Blu's from the Videoezy store. Also given up downloading films, I'd rather put money into the local economy as much as I can. Besides, there's something rather nice about watching the best quality of film available.
MMmmm
Yes, I still buy DVDs. Like several other people here, I purchase new releases in the Blu-ray format, everything else in the DVD format. Why? It's simple: The primary advantages that the Blu-ray format have over the standard DVD format, which are superior video & audio quality, virtually disappear when you're talking about old B-grade movies or old television programs. An old Ed Wood movie, for example, will look just as crummy on Blu-ray as it does on DVD, so why spend the extra money? Old crap like this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but there are people out there, like me, who actually enjoy cheesy old B-Z flicks, or old TV programs from the 1960s-80s.
Since no studio in their right mind is ever going to spend millions to digitally remaster the old crap I like from the 1950s-80s & put it on Blu-ray, I will continue them purchase DVDs. For new crap, I'll buy in the Blu-ray format.
I buy BD for me and DVD for my 9 year old.
