How about see the Monoprice difference against a Monster cable.. Oh yeah no difference you say.. Well just look at the fraking price and tell me there's no difference. :)
Aside from the astronomical price tag, are there truly any advantages to buying monster? I mean who shows off their cables when their friends come over? Another case of people not knowing and companies taking advantage of it (ie. Wii memory cards, Xbox network cable)
Monster Cables are actually good cables. The issue, however, is the insanity in pricing.
I own three or four sets of Monster Cables, but they were deals worked when I bought my TV way back when ("I'll pay a quarter the retail for the cables, it's the least you can do after my buying this TV!"). I would NEVER pay full retail. And, of course, these were component video, which you definitely want to be well-shielded and Oxygen Free Copper.
Note that I also own Phoenix Gold, Monoprice, Bluejean, Radio Shack Gold (before they rebranded it and upped the price) and some custom jobs with Canare endpoints (different gang than bluejean who also uses Canare).
In my experience, they've ALL been great cables, even the Monsters. Gold plating, OFC and shielding are what you need, no matter who you go to.
But as I said, Monster's retail is just hugely overpriced. Hugely, massively, crazily overpriced! ESPECIALLY when it comes to HDMI. But if you can get Monsters for a fair price -- comparable to other cables out there -- there's no reason to say no.
You do realize that a quarter of retail on a $100 set of monster cables ($25) is still 5 times what it cost them to make, sell, and turn a profit on, right? After $5, I don't care of they have gold plated logos, it is PURE profit. They don't cost anywhere near $5 to even make. I have $3 eBay HDMI cables, component cables, coaxial cables, power cables (car audio), USB cables, etc. I don't skimp on ANYTHING, and I still won't buy monster, because I already have monster cables without the ridiculous markup, considering they are as good as a coat hanger (yes, it's been tested).
“An engineer explained to us that hundreds of ear impressions were gathered in the name of research, and while each one obviously boasted its own unique shape and size, one single characteristic remained uniform across the board: the entrance into the ear canal is not a perfect circle, it's an oval.”
