Rumors of Netflix content streaming to the PS3 date back to, well, the
first rumors of it hitting the Xbox 360. We all know which of those two platforms got some red envelope love last year, and now, soon after hearing the service may be
heading to the Wii, we have what seems to be similar confirmation that Netflix is at least still considering bringing their bitstream to the PS3. The screenshot above was captured by a reader, showing a message like that on the earlier Wii survey -- in fact it's exactly the same from what we can see. Given our proximity to that least newsy day of the year on April 1st we can't be sure this is entirely genuine, but it probably is time for Sony to
make a little room in its XMB for Netflix.
[Thanks, Jake N.]
Thats great news... but are us UK based Xbox 360 owners going to get a slice of the subscription movie streaming pie? We have Love Film that could potentially offer the same service.

This is why I like Apple in cases like this... there aren't 5,000 leaks that come out and when they launch a product it is ready within a very short period of time.
If I was Netflix I would be working to get streaming on every device that fits the necessary requirements, because every month they spend thinking about doing something that is completely inevitable is another month where Netflix pays the United States Postal Service more money than would otherwise be required.
How does netflix know if I have a PS3 in order to send me this survey? I can't find anywhere in my member account where I can tell them which devices I own and would like to have their streaming service on. Seems fishy to me that they would just randomly send out emails to people who may or may not even own a PS3. Is there something I'm missing?
I don't think they know someone has a PS3. There is an option for "Netflix Surveys" under the E-Mail Subscriptions section of your account info. If this option is checked, they will send you surveys with questions like this at random times. I received the survey with this question and I don't own a PS3.
Aha! thanks for the info, I didn't know about that. The only emails I ever get ask when my movies got here or when I sent them out. I'll have to check that box then. Thanks again!
That advertisement looks like someone replaced Wii with PS3. Why would you need a disc for streaming on the PS3 when it has a hard drive to store the Netflix code? Tim I think you've been hoodwinked.:)
Yeah what he said!
Easy, Netflix had the option before to make a deal with Sony to have the rights to put their software on the PS3 but Sony rejected the idea in favor of their own expensive slow downloading content in the PS Store.
Netflix can get around this problem with an insertable DVD.
A $10 dvd is better than paying $100 for a crappy Roku box or buying an Xbox to get this feature.
i hope it is PS3 bound.
i'd also like them to add it to Apple TV.
As an owner of a 360 and a PS3 (and a Wii), it would be great to have Netflix streaming on the PS3. IMHO, whether I'm playing 720p streams or watching a compressed video file, pictures overall seem to look sharper on the PS3 than on the 360, probably due to the Cell chip. I'm more concerned with just having this capability on as many systems as possible, however, rather than taxing one console more than another. Bring it on!
And what exactly is Blockbuster doing about this?
This doesn't mean anything, same for the Wii one. I took a survey over a year ago through Adobe asking about Flash on the iPhone, and look what's come of that. It's simply a way to gauge public opinions not forthcoming features.

Download the PlayOn media server and you'll already have netflix streaming for the PS3.
and not in HD.
All for the low, low price of not one but TWO PSN games. Or the cost of an older retail game.
PlayOn is very overpriced. Tversity is going to add this stuff for free, they need to move faster, though.
I didn't get this survey, but I'll go ahead and say yes, I want this. ;-)
@Ordeith
I don't know about you, but i get netflix in HD on my Ps3 using PlayOn
And i got for free, go to the website, apply for one promotion...
Example: Freecreditreport
signup, they will send the registration, you have 9 days to cancel freecreditreport, i canceled next day, that's it, free PlayOn... working like a charm.
I still say no thanks to the scam and spam route, not worth it.
You also might soon feel the costs more than an DVD player at target price for this software.
From Playon Support:
"By "gaming" we mean when users have signed up for an offer, waited for the PlayOn license mail, and then immediately canceled the subscription from the offer. We are changing the system so that these licenses will be automatically revoked if the user cancels their trial offer."
They want ME to pay $10 to watch their programming for which I already pay a monthly fee?
This is sounding more like a bonehead move by Blockbuster than Netflix.
My TiVO will do just fine. Even there, if the bandwidth is limited by network traffic, they not only reduce resolution of the streaming video, but it bungs up the aspect ratio of the video to somethings a square image.
Yeah, I'll pay $10 for that. NOT!
A one time $9.99 fee is too much for you to add Netflix functionality to your PS3? Wow!
but TIVO is in bed with Blockbuster and you think Blockbuster is boneheaded.
wait, what?
News alert, netflix is coming to clock radio's everywhere.
Look, netflix coming to "something soon" is boring, PS3, Wii, Xbox360, who cares.
Netflix streaming news is no longer exciting.
