The amount of electronics thrown away rather than recycled in 2007.
The EPA reports that 82% of electronics disposal in 2007 ended up in the garbage (mostly landfills) rather than a recycling center. (source: EPA, July 2008)

Are these the panels used in the B6000, 7000 or 8000 new series? Yesterday i saw a 46B6000 in Barcelona and it's slimmer than 2008 series 7 & 8.
They also have located the back connectors vertically (like Sharp does) making it more "slim" when you attach it to a wall, because you don't have to let space for the wires. Ah! and the 4 HDMI are all on the right side (maybe I mistake an USB port with a HDMI, but who knows, I'm talking about the Euro model, maybe the USA versions are different (besides Hz variations)

As long as Panasonic keeps cranking out their VIERA plasmas, I couldn't be less interested in anything Samsung has to say.

Now that Panasonic is the only plasma-only company (and one of just a few companies that are making plasma at all), I wonder how long they'll be making plasmas. At the electronic store I sued to work at, we had a panasonic 50pz800u (an older model) bookended by a 52" Sony XBR 6 and a 52" Samsung 750 (both pretty new as far as TVs go) and of course the plasma blew them away. But I have seen some of the LED TVs and their black levels are very impressive. And being half an inch thick and 60 lbs is very appealing, because to me it's a waste to get a massive TV and NOT mount it on a wall, unless for some reason you aren't able to do it. I'd like to see the new versions of the LED backlit, and now edgelit TVs.
Normally I would agree with Loban but. If this baby is 52" and less then .5 thick and weighs in at around 60lbs with 240hz and has the expected black levels and contrast because of the edge lit LED, then I just may have to be converted. If only they can improve the off center viewing lines.
Not sure I get the "edge lit" tech. First, it seems there are FAR, far less LEDs if they are only deployed at the edges. "Consume less power" also seems to imply "less light shining through."
How can they keep the brightness (typical of LCD) up by going this direction?
And what about last year's marketing push for "selective dimming?" What they are now doing seems to be a 100% repudiation of that... so might we see 2010 models going back to LEDs behind the screens?
I totally agree with you. My first thought is "selective dimming" is gone. It's almost impossible to do with edit lit. So goes the black level and contrast ratio.
Compromises that some will take over the thinness of the TV. But not for me.
been playing with the 6000 @ my job for the last week, which we have right next to the B650. man, it's so slim!!! very attractive set! but besides it being brighter (and a greener tech), there's no diff in PQ between it and the B650. since it's edge-lit with white LEDs, all the benefits of backlit LED sets- i.e. unlimited contrast, expanded color range, and little to no motion blur- are pretty much non-existent. looks just like the ccfl samsungs, but way more expensive. shouldnt it be the opposite?
