The big deal for Comcast in 2008 was its
Project Infinity plan to
offer 6,000 movies per month and 1,000 selections in HD on its video on-demand service, and word has leaked to
Multichannel News that the next step is consolidating the company's efforts into two data centers covering the entire U.S. with the ability to deliver up to 100,000 VOD choices. Added bonus? This could be part of a plan to add
Start Over-style network DVR options. Word is this doesn't have anything to do with the potential
OnDemand Online plans, but as long as squeezing down the number of servers means shows will pop up on VOD when they're supposed to and not hours/days/weeks later, we're all for it.
I'm not going to even comment on this, the digital migration should be Comcast's #1 priority for its customers.
Am I the only one who doesn't give a @$%! about Comcast's On Demand HD service? How about actually giving us some actual HD channels that we can view on TV, especially those with cablecard who can't view the On Demand content in the first place.
Yes give us some channels to watch.... I'm tired of the food network in HD, but no 'real' Discovery HD or Comedy Central HD or CNN HD or ........
How about actually giving us clear reception for HD channels first? I had to watch 24 on SD last night because the signal was all eff-ed up! If I had any other options I would switch in a second. I could give one's rat ass about their On-Demand service!
Do the VOD movies offered by cable come with sub-titles for the hearing impaired like DVD's do? No, I didn't think so.
What a smart move, just wait til one database crashes and then you screw one coast or the other. Secondly, VOD I don't even use that much, if Comcast made a deal to provide Internet content through the cable box, that'd help out as long as they don't charge bandwidth.
I agree with Nirvan and Jay, more HD Channels should be the way to go, and lock in some deals to do 4 channels at one time like what Direc does.
