It's been three years since we
wished for General Hospital to deliver us some medical melodrama in HD, and in a couple of weeks it'll be coming. Just in time for the May sweeps that are now only partially
screwed up due to the delayed DTV transition, the longest running soap in the biz -- 46 years and 11,500 episodes -- will be getting a 720p makeover on April 23rd. ABC has spent a tidy $3 million to equip the production facilities for HD, including seven HD cameras and five Panasonic
professional plasmas that keep our hearts warm. ABC is hoping the jump to HD will help increase the realism of the show, and while we're never ones to underestimate the power of HD picture quality, we suspect the story lines might need a little more than 720p to get us to suspend our disbelief.
So if someone wanted to get into this show, where would they start watching???
It's on ABC. You'll have to check the listings for your area, it comes on at 2pm in Los Angeles.
I mean what season would they start at. It would take a long time to catch up on 46 seasons.
well its on ABC at 3pm. its a really good show. but like the writer said HD is great and im excited but its in need of a new head writer.
This does make it so that my wife won't fight so much on laying out the cash for the antenna we need so we can cut cable. This is the only soap she watches so she should be happy. Oh wait, that's if she can tell the difference...
Please, Young and the Restless has been in 1080i for awhile now..
hmm, grown men watching soaps.. that cannot be good.
Just a note that "Guiding Light" on CBS has been on TV for 57 years - since 1952, and started on radio on NBC back in 1937 - for a total of 72 years. The next oldest soap is "As the World Turns" which first aired in 1956, making it 53 years old.
one would have THOUGHT Soap Operas would have all gone HD YEARS ago. What the hell were they waiting on??
