Monster Cable learns nothing, sues Monster Transmission
Wondering why Engadget still has a permanent ban on covering Monster Cable products, even after the company tried to make amends for its frivolous lawsuit and strong-arm settlement offer against Monster Mini Golf? Well, it's because the company hasn't actually changed its ways -- not only did we just catch them trying to peddle their overpriced snakeoil cables using rigged displays for the third time, Noel Lee's lawyers have dusted themselves off and filed a lawsuit against Monster Transmission, a performance auto supplier in Florida. Yes, Monster Cable is suing an American automotive manufacturing company in the middle of a recession. Brilliant PR move, don't you think? So yeah, the ban stands -- and we'd recommend steering your friends to any number of cable brands that are just as good, much cheaper, and far less burdened with the stink of desperation than any of Monster's products.
Update: Monster Cable's sending out a statement saying "Monster does not have an issue with Monster Transmission" and that the "case was filed last year, before the Monster Mini Golf matter was settled" but it sounds to us like they're playing fast and loose with their timeline to distract people -- we just spoke to Achilles Thomas, one of the owners of Monster Transmission, and he said the initial lawsuit was filed between October and November of 2008 and hasn't come close to settling, even though the Mini Golf case settled in January. Naughty, naughty.

Sorry for big-ish post, guys. Response I got from Monster.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B,
Thank you for your email and your concern.
Monster does not have an issue with Monster Transmission. We advised our
outside attorneys several months ago to resolve the matter and they are
in the process working that out with Monster Transmission's attorneys.
This case was filed last year, before the Monster Mini Golf Matter was
settled. We have learned from our experience with the fallout from the
Monster Mini Golf matter that we can be "legally" right in the
protection of our trademark, but wrong in the eyes of our customers.
We now know we have to balance protecting trademark rights with the
opinion of our customers. We will always consider and value the opinion
of our customers.
If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact me.

Flo Rida should sue Florida.

Wow sad when people take something that has nothing to do with them, and in all actuality effects them in absolutely no way at all in their daily lives and take it personally. As as stated before I do not condone The frivolous lawsuits. I am quite clearly pointing out hypocrisy. Anyone and everyone has the right to stand up and say if they feel their toes are being stepped on. Be that patent infringement, or trademark infringement, or any other injustice that entity feels they are suffering.
Here are facts since so many want to jump to Apples defense so quickly. I use and buy Apple products, but I know that Apple goes as far as to patent and then sue peolpe for things that Apple never intends to produce. Tons of companies do this. It's to ensure market place safety. Yet no one wants to call Apple on it. When a person with no vested interest stands up and says "Hey this action, behavior, line of thought What ever it is, is UNFAIR, and people try to attack that person for nothing more than pointing out injustice. That people is mob mentality. The grown up response is not to attack he who preaches equality, but to stand back for a second and at least think about it. Some of the comments would suggest that I didn't point out mere injustice, but called for the immediate shut down of the industrial Messiah. Whoa people get a grip on yourselves. This is not elementary school, and should not be handled in a childish fashion. If you get your feathers all ruffled because someone doesn't agree with you 100% then you have metal issues, and need to spend a little time in front of the mirror talking to yourself in an honest manner. Just for the he double hockey stick of it I am going to bring in a completely unrelated topic, because it shows prime example of this very train of thought, or actually lack there of. When US attorney general Eric Holder said "We are a nation of cowards" he was right, because every single person alive over the age of 13 has some preset lines of thinking, and the reason we as a country can not move forward is because people are not willing to admit it to them selves much less anyone else. Just because someone does not agree with you does not make them 100% wrong, and it does not make you 100% right. There is a sever lack of personal accountability going on. Yes Monster needs to stop with all the frivilousness and look at themselves, and so does every damn one else. Some of you are taking my sheer pointing out of hypocrisy personal. Which should tell you something. It means you should get up from in front of your computer and go stand in front of the mirror and ask yourself "Why did I get so upset about that? It wasn't directed at me, but I made it about me. Why did I feel the need to do that?"
The "I hate this comment system" statement is a prime example. That comment clearly states the inability to deal with someone not thinking just like you. You are close minded and unable to deal with reality. Now you are going to be all "How can you say that?!" I bet you fancy yourself a free thinker and just person don't you? I bet you think of your self as a decent person, but your inability to tolerate others view point says exactly the opposite. A real man will stand up for an others rights even when he does not agree with what that person might be doing. That is justice, that is equality! Not this modern fake progressive equality that hinges on if someone else agrees with me. The sad part is I would defend your right to make such an asinine statement. I'd even give my life to defend your right to make such a one sided statement. WOW thank you for proving my point! Mob Mentality. You don't even wait to know where a person is coming from before you pass judgment.
I haven't used Monster products in many many years. Why? Well, because there are comparable products at cheaper prices. I'm not basing my accession on if the guy that started the company is an immigrant, or if he sues anyone that looks at him wrong, because that is not fair in any shape form or fashion. I'm buying another brand because it offers an actually better product or a comparable product at a better price.
What makes you feel you have the right to post such a patronising, self-righteous, and damn right ignorant post. What exactly is wrong with people agreeing with the sentiments of the posted story, and offering their voice of support for the poor company that is suffering as a result of the actions of an extremely greedy corporation, whose product line is designed to rip-off, and take advantage of the average consumer?
I go to best buy, and direct the poor schnooks who are about to buy monster crap to reasonable alternatives.....right after the best buy guy walks away.
I do the same thing. In fact I just sent a letter to monster stating that I do this. In fact I will start going to bestbuy in my free time just to sway people away from their cables
LOL, dude that is just too funny!

Ha, this is funny!
I remember the Circuit City store in Glendale, CA was trying to sell me a $100 HDMI cable insisting it was better and necessary for a HDTV. I got pissed at them and told them to suck it and that I could purchase it for $20 online or at Fry's. That poor sales guy was so intent on selling the POS cable though...
The Cookie Monster is preemptively seeking legal representation as we speak.
Monster FAILS yet again. They'll never learn.
I think a google search for "overpriced cables" should pop up that crap company at the top.
His mother's name is monster, he should try sueing her as well.
I just went down to the city clerks office and filed my corporate papers. I now own Monster Tables inc.
I think im gonna start a company to compete with monster wire. maybe ill call it RETSNOM Cables. Inc. (monster backwards) ill make them all cool and hip looking like monster does, put some pretty colors on the connectors. and sell them for half the price of monster cables. Even half the price of monster is still too expensive but if i make the too cheap, my wires will just be part of the crowd of other wires and wont sell, i think its the price that makes people think its better. which is weird cause the specs should, and no ordinary person would understand real specs for wiring, unless they where in electrical engineer. so half price of monster is the way to go, to differentiate from the cheaper and compete with monster. Than i can destroy monster cable inc. get rich and know i did something good. ill even donate much of my profits to charity. so i dont feel like an ass for high priced cables.

Frak Monster Cable!
I hear they're going after monster trucks next...
Just amazed at what some consumers will believe. Sometimes all it takes is a big price tag and lot's of marketing and people will buy it.
If you ask any electrical engineer, they will tell you that their is only so much you can do to make cable better. Obviously a good conductor like copper is the best. Guage of wire matters to some degree but not as much as Monster would like for you to believe.
I have used basic 16 guage copper speaker wire or Zip wire and have always had great results. As for other interconnecting cables the same applies. As long as they are manufactured correctly you do not need to spend a lot on them. Buy from a good wire manufacture like Belkin Wire and you will not have problems.

This is about another frivolous suit from the Monster. The response from the company being sued is awesome. They show Monster who's got the balls.

Thank you for the heads up, I just purchased a Monster Bass guitar cable and I will surely be returning it the store this week. I work for a small family owned business and though I acknowledge there are companies out there larger with more capabilities I would never want any of them to bully the little guys. So F@#% Monster Cables... they are way too over priced anyway! Im getting a Planet Wave as a replacement.
Think I can sue *Noel* Lee for use of my name?
I'd love to see how they handle someone with the last name Monster. Not like they can sue them for a name they were born with, but I'm sure they would find some way.
I dug a little bit on this matter and received a response from the Vice President of Operations regarding this suit. The details can be found at: http://www.yakamundo.com/?p=149
You guys just don't get it. It's not about Monster cables being better, it's about everyone knowing that I'm better for being able to afford Monster cables.
How about suing Monster Cables for trying to steal a word from the English language?
