Crestron 200 Disc Blu-ray changer due in June

[Thanks, Utah]

A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I think I'd rather pay $1000 for a uber nice Blu player and use the $6000 for the 200($6000/$30) Blu disks.

Lets see 9k for 200 disc changer. On an average a single blu ray cost 20 bucks, now 20 X 200 = 4k to fill it up. A total of 13k to sit back and relax to enjoy all those HD movies.
Or you know, spend $2000 for a gargantuan amount of HDD space (or hell, even ssd comparable at this ridiculous price range) and rip all those BDs...
I'd rather spend the money on a Kaleidescape, anyday.
This system is so over-the-top that no one bothered to mention features such as bitstreaming, internal decoding and build quality! Frankly, you can't really blame Crestron for pricing this system above what they demand for their touchscreen remotes...can you? The system is still a bargain compared to a Kalaidascape system...isn't it? Another company will come out with a BD system that WILL cost more...won't they? This unit will be on the standard features list of Candy Spellings new downsized,17K square foot, 47 million dollar condo...I mean it's a sure thing, right? If you're going to add a BD system to your 75 million dollar corporate jet, 16K CAN'T be a big deal to you...can it? The only question is: How much does the system weigh and how many bottles of scotch have to be off-loaded to make it happen! If we slip into the worst deppression in the countries history, Crestron will sell every last one of these units that they make...right?
You're forgetting that the $6k for the adagio system also gets you a frickin' crestron adagio system.

Instant access ? It looks like it would take you a few days just to load the damn thing via that slot ! 200 disks is no where near enough. I have over 350 Blu-rays already not even counting DVD's.
Fail. Sony has a 400 disk one comming that might be up your alley.
I would rather wait for the Sony 400 disc changer. Costs half as much and stores twice as more. Plus it'll be controlled by a whole host of other hardware device w/o having to spring into a Crestron only system. Changer is due out sometime this year (hopefully).
you honestly think this was meant for someone who buys 16,000 cars? this is meant for people who buy 16,000 pens...
Are there even 200 Blu Ray movies available yet?
You kidding? It's not that hard to find people on the Bluray forums that have double that amount in just their collection.
The Crestron system I think will use the Powerfile Blu-ray changer. Anyone who has ever used a Powerfile DVD changer knows what a hassle they can be.
These changers only support playback of one disc at a time, unlike NAS storage where you can play multiple Blu-rays from multiple devices at the same time. The benefit of the changer is you don't need to spend time ripping your discs and if you take exception to using software like AnyDVD, Changers don't require this.
Aaron, I have Kaleidescape and it does not support Blu-ray, even their Blu-ray player due out at the end of the year won't import Blu-ray it will only play the single Blu-ray disc in the tray.
Don't forget Sony has had a 200 disc Blu-ray changer for years now, the HES-V1000, it even runs the same crossbar media OS as the PS3, has a 500gb drive for music and photos. It's only $2,400
Nearly 1400 B-R's currently available ... and that probably doesn't include those of "ill repute."

10 TB of disk space would cost $1,000. What numb nuts has allowed themselves to be kicked hard and long enough to be impressed with this over-priced boutique product?
