Verizon's FiOS TV expansions: April 25, 2009

With the weather warming up, Verizon's finally started adding a few more areas again, signing on seven new housing developments for FiOS TV, and reminding potential customers how easy the switch can be. Even though its YES Network deal didn't include Yankees games, Mets fans can enjoy their jetstream-less field and game on video on-demand, and everyone can celebrate remote DVR scheduling.

If you want to watch HD channels without compression, and the way that it was intended to be , then you should choose FIOS, otherwise you can stay with that cable company and their HD lite channels.

Pic quality and Internet are awesome, install takes a while but its free, only drawback is the billing; it's a pain in the ass but I put up with it because of how good the other stuff is.

If you can actually get FiOS, I'd really recommend get it (it's not available everywhere yet). I used to have it at my old house, but had to switch back to Comcast at my new place - and man, do I miss my FiOS. The internet speeds were way faster and the interactive TV guide / DVR was a lot cleaner, smoother, and intuitive than what the cable company offers.

If you have an HD tv, you'll notice that the picture quality is way crisper due to lower compression (like Carlos mentions above)

Anyone switch from Direct TV to Fios TV HD extreme? We love Direct TV, but can get phone, fios internet & HD TV with all channels except foreign for what paying now for just phone/DSL line. Basically will save about $80 without TV bill from Direct TV, but scared to make the switch for savings as have been with Direct TV for 10 years & no problems. Any positive/negative comments greatly appreciated!

Picture quality is pretty amazing. HD channels are fantastic. Verizon FiOS is the way of the future. Their technology is the best.
