Harmon Kardon has decided to jump into the Blu-ray pushing business with its first player, the BDP 10. This slick number's got all the features you've come to know and love in Blu-ray -- BD-Live and
Bonus View capabilities for online content, advanced audio codec support, 1080 / 24p playback, plus USB ports for DiVX and JPEG display. It'll also boast HDMI 1.3a, Ethernet, coaxial and optical audio outputs plus good old two-channel analog audio outputs. The BDP 10 has only been formally announced for Europe so far, though it's expected elsewhere (including the US) in the coming months. The player has a price tag of about €700 (around $940). Isn't Harman on the verge of collapse? How can such a big company be so screwed up? Love their products to death, but they need a new marketing department and executive team. Their engineers all deserve a nice raise (good job guys!)
How does it stack up against the Oppo at twice the price? Probably nowhere near the value.
So, who's player did HK rebadge?
nice looking player....every company is hoping on the BD band wagon...
I wonder when Microsoft will cave and release a BD external drive for the 360...LOL. Missed revenue...year after year....
In theory there is no need to. The 360 has USB ports so there is no technical reason it couldn't work with an external player already out there. And the console could probably decode the video and audio too since it managed it for HD DVD. The issue probably has more to do with politics than anything else. It's strange in a way that they don't have a model with an internal BD drive and playback capability because its a major feature that the PS3 has and the 360 hasn't.
Judging from its display, this Harman looks like another Funai clone...
