IMO the Denons require more tweaking to have sound to match the upper level Onkyos.  However the advanced Audessy(sp) of the Denons help with this. I own the AH-D5000 and the quality worse than anything else for a 700 dollar headphone.  The screw that holds the ear cup to the head band bracket kept falling off.  After twice getting this fixed, the screw has now broken off with half inside the bracket (think door key broken while opening door). The screw that holds the ear cup to the head band is put in upside down, so eventually gravity will do the work for you.  This coupled with the fact that the ear cup rotates around this screw means it will eventually become lose.  It is also made of very weak metal composite so it must have rotated a big too much and broken off.
