Discovery kicking off continent-by-continent followup to Planet Earth with Wild Planet: North America
Having nabbed the former head of the BBC's Natural History Unit, Discovery has designs on its own epic globe trotting series promising to "capture the world, continent by continent in high definition, as its never been seen before." Naturally planned to debut first on Discovery's networks, as opposed to its partnership with BBC on Planet Earth, Wild Planet: North America will be the first of seven installments and start filming this fall. Expect HD cams to visit even more extreme locations, and all manner of wildlife to be snapped by the thousand lenses of myriad high speed cameras. We're ready. HD cameras? This is 2009. They better be using film or RED cameras.
Well at least they only have to commit to 7 episodes instead of the 30 they attempted to do for Discovery Atlas.
I'm still baffled by what happened with Discovery Atlas. The first season was great, but then it basically fell off the face of the earth and took some digging just to see some of the episodes from season 2. The quality of show to show was inconsistent because of the different people involved in producing each one. But overall Discovery Atlas had a lot of potential... they really dropped the ball on that one.
RED cameras please?
