Oppo BDP-83 completes second round of testing, pre-order invites going out

On the list for the Oppo BDP-83 universal Blu-ray player? With responses from the second round of beta testers showing over 90% approving of release to the general public, our tipster reports those invited to pre-order should already have their emails giving an opportunity to complete their $499 purchase and get one shipped home later this month. For gosh sakes, by the time the general public can buy one these, Bluray will be obsolete. Originally people were speculating about a Christmastime release. Then it was late Winter.

I was wanting a player with good audio for what I was hoping would be audio only releases on Bluray. But in the many months and even years it's taking for any players with good audio circuitry and total lack of Bluray audio releases, the Hi-Rez audio scene is changing to computer based with downloads and DVD-R discs being shipped with low royalty, DRM-free, user-friendly files.

I'm glad I waited.

This is a bit old news you got from your crack tipster there. I ordered mine last week and I'm awaiting notice of shipment. Ship Oppo Ship!

I had determined that the sole remaining useful application for my Samsung BDPOS-1400 was to be offered as a ritualistic sacrifice it to the blu-ray gods. I got tired of Waiting for Oppo and I'll now have to decide whether to return the Pio 51 - not a bad player at all with the current firmware. However, when BDP-83 pre-orders started shortly after the ceremony was performed, I realized I had to at least have a taste of the Oppo.

Can someone who has already gotten the BDP-83 comment on its picture quality against something like the Panasonic BD35 which I have. I do have the Oppo DV-980H that I use for SACD, and love it. It would be nice to have one player for both:)
