Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 now shipping
Just try to wrap your minds around this, Harmony / PS3 owners: this weekend is the last weekend that your otherwise awesome universal remote won't be able to power on your otherwise awesome Blu-ray / media player. Wild, we know. Logitech's heralded Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 -- which converts the IR blasts coming from your Harmony-branded remote to Bluetooth signals that the console understands -- is now shipping. You can pretty much take your pick of e-tailers, but the read link leads to a sweet 10 percent off promotion that'll save you a few bones compared to buying from Amazon. Whatever the case, the MSRP is $59.99, so feel free to track down the best deal in all your free time.

Programming a Harmony with a Nyko Bluwave ($20) is a much cheaper alternative. Only disadvantage is losing 1 USB port.
I have the BluWave, but it only replicate the 6 Axis buttons, there are many buttons on the full remote it does not do. Plus it can't turn on/off the ps3.
Full remote functionality is probably work $59 to me.
My big question is this: Can you program a macro to go directly to play a movie? I have "auto run" turned off because i have enough downloaded content that it annoys me when i start up the system I have to quit out of whatever disk. The down side is my wife hates the XMB. So ideally I could macro a simple "play movie" function for her... but is this possible?
You can set the PS3 to "auto-run disk" then on the remote have a macro set for watch movie and it will take you directly to the movie, one button. If you have the "auto-Run" turned off then it will take you too the Video section of the XMB where you can scroll around and press "ok" to select the movie. Hopefully this answered your question.
Got mine two days ago. Works great after a little hiccup trying to set it up with my Harmony 880.
Still cheaper at Amazon since you dont have to pay for shipping.
Mine just arrived. On a side note the adapter also has a port to directly plug into the harmony rf extender. Which i guess is nice, it will allow me to hide this away. However it doesn't come with the cable to do this, so I guess I'll need to pick up a male to male 3.5 stereo mini jack cable.
According to the logitech blog, you need a 3.5 to 2.5 male to male chord.
also known as a cable
So if we were to compare prices the Sony way (that is, to add in costs of optional accessories), the PS3 just jumped up another $60? This is, of course, in addition to the cost of the HDMI cable, headset, etc. that the PS3 doesn't come with.
Yes, the PS3 does not ship with an optional adapter for a Logitech remote, why is this a negative for Sony?
It's a negative for Sony because their stupid cheap asses should have included IR to begin with, which would have added pennies to the cost, where now, PS3 owners are paying $20 to $100 to get universal remote support.
Seriously, the PS3 doesn't come with alot of stuff that alot of customers don't buy.
Headset? Personally don't own one for the PS3, don't need one, don't want that price added for it.
HDMI? lots of people don't have HDMI compatible stuff to use that cable yet.
Honestly, wake up a little before you surf somewhere and maybe post something like this.....just in case your low self esteem "I want someone to shoot me down" button might still be on Auto ON.
HDMI cables are less than 5 bucks and you can use ANY headset. I don't see the major drawback for that reason. Although I will say that $60 seems a bit much just to get my remote to work
And to think I was about to buy a standalone blu-ray player because I got tired of not being able to use my harmony remote with my ps3.
Well, now I have the best all around blu-ray player and full control via harmony. 60 bucks is steep but whateva!
Very few players come with HDMI cables, and if they did it would probably be too long or too short or unnecessary, but you'd have to pay for it anyway and then people would complain about paying for a pack-in they didn't want.
Never heard of a BD player with a headset. Where would you plug it in?
And the PS3 does come with a remote that operates the player. Yes, it's unconventional, but then so would be trying to play Grand Theft Auto with a DVD remote. It's a compromise that you can undo if you feel the need by buying an aftermarket solution. Much like your universal remote is a (very expensive) aftermarket solution.
More importantly, why can't Logitech just build BT into their remote? Also a cheap option...
Agreed with Ketel1.
I have difficulties ollowing Logitech strategy these days. Their only effort at incorporating BT is the Nuovo mini keyboard, an expensive option and hardly attractive option for HTPC owners. It would be about time BT comes as standard in the Harmony line. THAT would surely give them an edge.
Don't waste your money on anything made by Harmony. Every item I've every bought from them has broke or had issues either during or immediately after the warranty expired & Harmony could have cared less. Even when it was brought to their attention that their own forums & the net was full of people complaining about the same thing. They just refuse to stand behind poor design or build problems & wouldn't even escalate my phone call or complaint.
So if I get the Harmony Xbox 360 remote, it should be able to control both consoles and my TV.
Right?
Yep, that's a pretty awesome solution right there
Yes, but only until the DAMNED ROBOTS RISE UP AND KILL YOU!! THEN where will your stinking "Harmony" remote be? On your burning corpse, that's where!
Hey LONGWORTH702,
I'm having hiccups getting mine to work correctly with my 880 as well. Particularly, the PS3 coming on when it isn't supposed to. How did you set yours up. I'd really appreciate the help, spent hours yesterday trying to get it work right, and it still isn't right. Very frustrating!
